Automating Full-Scale Infrastructure Monitoring with Zabbix
I have been using Zabbix, an open-source monitoring solution, for the past two years to oversee our entire infrastructure. It provides immediate feedback through email and Jabber, enabling quick and accurate troubleshooting. The new tag-based management system in Zabbix ensures secure access to sensitive data. The latest Zabbix 4.2 version offers visually appealing HTML-based emails. Zabbix is versatile, capable of monitoring servers, networks, services, virtual machines, databases, and websites. The new interface and features in Zabbix 4.2 are impressive. It stores data in JSON format, making it accessible to other applications. For large-scale production systems, I highly recommend Zabbix proxy. Its low-level discovery feature automatically finds new nodes, saving time and effort. However, Zabbix could improve its notification and per-user view features by offering more customization options. The support tickets can be expensive if you purchase starter packs, so I recommend the Enterprise pack.

Zabbix: Excellent for Large Enterprises and DevOps
Zabbix is a great product suitable for monitoring anything in environments ranging from small to very large. Its low footprint for agents and emphasis on stability and scalability enable us to monitor thousands of machines with hundreds of thousands of metrics. The API accommodates any custom scripting needed for additional functionality. However, Zabbix might not be ideal for beginners or SMB IT administrators.
