      Top-notch Enterprise Backup Software from Dell Technologies

      My experience with Networker has been outstanding. It's simple to set up and upgrades function smoothly, provided that best practices are adhered to. It's compatible with most of the enterprise-grade backups we require, including VMWare and traditional machine backups. When combined with quality storage, its performance is exceptional. However, managing existing backup sets can be somewhat laborious, particularly when altering expiry dates. Occasionally, I have to resort to the CLI or script for larger changes, but this also turns out to be very potent. I opted for Dell EMC NetWorker due to its features, pricing, and our pre-existing relationship with Dell/EMC. The close integration with storage on Data Domain was also a determining factor.

      Fast Typing on this Dell

      I'm having issues with the Dell keyboard. When I type quickly, it sometimes misses letters or types them in the wrong order, a problem known as keyboard ghosting. This seems to be due to the cheap quality of the keyboard and the processor detecting keystrokes late or out of sync. It's incredibly frustrating, especially when checking work, as a word with a missed letter isn't recognized as a spelling mistake. It's disappointing, considering even old laptops didn't have this issue. It feels like a cheap keyboard has been put on an expensive laptop. When I contacted Dell customer service, they simply said it is supposed to be like that, sorry about that, maybe next time buy a gaming keyboard. I believe typing is the primary purpose of a laptop and if they can't get that right, they should reconsider their approach. I feel I would be better off with a typewriter.

      Dell EMC NetWorker: Comprehensive Backup Solution with Room for Improvement

      I have implemented Networker in an environment with a VMware cluster and some Oracle SPARC servers for Oracle database. Networker performs excellently in backing up this environment. With the use of DD-Boots software, the backup process is faster and it integrates seamlessly with Data Domain storage backup as a repository. The software's most valuable feature is its ability to backup RICS environments like Oracle SPARC, IBM Power, and HPE Itanium. However, it lacks a user-friendly interface for backing up PCs and laptops and it doesn't support backup for Postgress and Cassandra DB with an agent. Another drawback is the high cost of the software if you use the capacity model, making it only affordable for high and mid-range companies. I chose Dell EMC NetWorker because the integration between Dell EMC's hardware and software provides excellent backup solutions and the ability to backup RISK systems, unlike other software that requires additional plugins and third-party integrations.
