When I am looking at password managers, there are two things I need. The first is a solid, trusted security architecture. The second is a workflow that will be used every day. Proton Pass delivers both of these with its end-to-end encryption of all data including sensitive fields and metadata, paired with fast autofill, cross-device sync and a generous free tier that includes passkeys and 10 hide-my-email aliases.
The thing that made me give Proton Pass an edge in my testing was how it combined identity protection with credential management. Creating burner/hide-my-email aliases is a native feature of Proton Pass, and 2FA (TOTP) codes can live right inside the corresponding login item , so you don’t have to switch contexts to add an additional layer of protection. This is the difference for many users, between “I should be more secure” and “I am more secure.”
On the trust side, I like that Proton Pass is open source and has had independent auditing (including a Cure53 review of apps, extensions, and API), which is still not the norm in this category. Passkey support is also available across devices and plans, which keeps it competitive as teams move away from passwords altogether.
Where Proton Pass can feel less mature is around “ecosystem glue”: reviewers point to fewer third-party integrations than older incumbents, and some advanced privacy options (aliases, passkeys, custom locking) can take time to master. I’ve also seen credible feedback that mobile locking behavior and breach-monitoring setup could be smoother, even though the desktop/browser experience is strong.
I would recommend Proton Pass to individual and team users who value transparency, encryption-first design, and modern features such as passkeys, secure sharing, and aliases. The pricing for Proton Pass continues to be competitive (Plus and Family for consumers; Essentials/Professional for businesses), and the discounted price of Pass Professional via JoinSecret, is particularly attractive if you are implementing the professional version to a small organization.
Comprehensive encryption for all data
Proton Pass uses end-to-end encryption on every piece of stored information, including passwords, notes, and attachments, offering a high level of protection for sensitive data.
Open source and independently verified
The platform’s open source code and regular third-party security audits provide transparency and build trust among users concerned about privacy and security.
Seamless autofill and cross-device support
Autofill works reliably across browsers and devices, making logging in to websites and apps faster and more convenient for users.
Support for burner emails and aliases
Users can generate burner emails or aliases directly within Proton Pass, helping to protect their real email addresses and reduce spam or unwanted tracking.
Intuitive password sharing for individuals and teams
Proton Pass makes it easy to securely share credentials with others, whether for personal use or within a business, streamlining collaboration without compromising security.
Limited integrations with third-party apps
Compared to some established competitors, Proton Pass currently offers fewer integrations with external applications and services, which may affect users with complex workflow needs.
Newer platform with evolving features
As a relatively new product, Proton Pass is still expanding its feature set and may lack some advanced options present in older password managers.
Potential learning curve for privacy features
Some users may need time to fully understand and utilize advanced privacy tools like aliases, passkeys, and custom account locking.
No offline access for all features
While core password management is available offline, certain features may require an internet connection, which could be limiting for users needing full offline functionality.
Migration from other password managers may require effort
Transferring data from another password manager to Proton Pass may involve additional steps, depending on the source platform and data format.

Privacy-focused individuals
Ideal if you want end-to-end encryption, passkey support, and transparent security practices (open source plus independent audits) without sacrificing day-to-day autofill convenience.
People overwhelmed by logins and 2FA apps
Great for users who want passwords, secure notes, and built-in TOTP codes in one place to reduce friction and mistakes.
Anyone fighting spam and data-broker tracking
Perfect if you sign up for lots of services and want hide-my-email aliases you can disable later when an address gets leaked.
Small businesses and remote teams
Best for teams that need straightforward, secure credential sharing and a practical business plan, especially with JoinSecret’s Pass Professional discount.
Families and “family IT support” roles
Well-suited when you manage passwords for multiple relatives, want a simple admin layer, and need secure sharing that works across devices.

Fast, Unbloated Manager with Alias Power
Proton Pass has worked well for us because it doesn’t take much training. People understand how to save logins, share credentials safely, and use 2FA codes from the same place. I also used a Joinsecret deal that reduced the annual cost by roughly 60%, so trying it at team level felt like a low-risk decision

Easy Apps, Passkeys, and Notes in Reach
For a small agency, Proton Pass hits a nice balance between security and usability. New team members pick it up fast, and I like being able to create separate vaults for internal tools and client accounts. We also came across a Joinsecret discount that cut the first year by about 60%, which was helpful without being the main reason we chose it

Privacy-First All-in-One with Aliases
I started using Proton Pass for work because I already trusted Proton for privacy, and the integration of passwords, notes, and hide-my-email aliases in one place is genuinely useful. I also found a Joinsecret offer that knocked around 60% off the business plan for the first year, which made it a lot easier to justify testing with the team

Smooth Team Rollout with Shared Vaults
I moved our small team to Proton Pass mainly for the shared vaults and admin controls, and it’s been smoother than I expected. The browser extension is quick, autofill works reliably on most sites we use every day, and having email aliases built in cuts down on spam when signing up for new tools

Joinsecret Discount + Rock-Solid Family Sync
Picked it up via Joinsecret’s 40% off offer, and while I’d still pay full price if I had to, the discount made it easier to justify moving my family over and the multi-device sync has been rock solid so far.

Built-In 2FA Codes When You Want Them
I didn’t expect to care, but the built-in 2FA code storage is convenient for low-risk accounts, and for important ones I still keep a separate authenticator, nice to have the option

Quick, Mostly Painless 1Password Import
Importing from 1Password took maybe five minutes and most fields mapped correctly, only a couple weird custom fields needed cleanup, which is better than my usual migration headaches

Ended Spreadsheet Password Chaos Fast
We switched after dealing with too many scattered spreadsheets and reused passwords, and Proton Pass fixed that pretty quickly. The desktop and mobile apps are both easy to use, passkey support is a nice bonus, and I appreciate that secure notes are close at hand instead of buried in menus

Simple for Coworkers, Strong Core Features
What I like most is that Proton Pass feels simple enough for non-technical coworkers but still gives me the basics I need, like secure password sharing, 2FA code support, and easy importing from another manager. A few odd logins still need manual help, but overall it’s been very solid

Great Value With Joinsecret 40% Off
I grabbed Proton Pass with the 40% off Joinsecret deal when I was already shopping around, and for that price the SimpleLogin-style aliases plus the solid autofill felt like a sensible upgrade
