Therefore, when converting contractors into employees, budgeting for the employers-of-record plan will also be straightforward since all employee benefits will be administered in one place.
Coda
Coda is what I pick when a doc needs to behave like a lightweight internal app: tables + formulas + buttons that run automations, plus Packs that sync data in from tools like Jira or Google Sheets. I also like the “maker billing” model, only Doc Makers are paid, while editors can collaborate for free. If I’m cost-planning, I benchmark Pro at $10 per Doc Maker/month (annual) and Team at $30 per Doc Maker/month (annual).
ClickUp
ClickUp is my alternative when the problem is execution, not brainstorming: tasks with custom fields, Gantt charts, time tracking, and dashboards that roll up progress across Spaces. I’ll use Business to unlock webhooks + automation integrations and its included 5,000 automations/month, which is enough for things like “on status change, create a subtask + notify a channel.” Pricing I’ve seen most teams anchor on is Unlimited at $7/user/month billed yearly, then Business at $12/user/month billed yearly.

I recommend Notion as an xTiles alternative when the person asking me is juggling mixed “docs + tracking” work, product specs, meeting notes, a roadmap, and a backlog, and they’re tired of duplicating the same info in multiple boards. I like that a single database can act as a task list, a Kanban board, and a timeline, and that filters/sorts are consistent across views. For teams, Business is where it starts to feel like an internal system instead of a personal workspace: private teamspaces for sensitive areas, SAML SSO for org access control, and granular database permissions (including row-level sharing based on assignee) are the kinds of features that stop “spreadsheet leaks” in real life. If you’re also trying to turn calls into work, AI Meeting Notes is a practical add because it directly outputs follow-ups inside the same workspace where tasks live.

I also find ClickUp’s Business plan is the tipping point for automation-heavy setups: webhooks + automation integrations and 5,000 automations/month are enough to build real routing rules (triage forms into lists, auto-assign by category, notify a channel, create subtasks). If your xTiles usage is mostly visual planning, ClickUp may feel heavy; if you need portfolio rollups, dashboards, and repeatable workflows, it’s the more “operational” choice.
