My top 3 Headway alternatives
By Mary O'Brien, Customer Success Manager
Blinkist
My favorite way to get ready for a meeting has been using Blinkist. It’s an easy way to make a "good enough" mental model of a subject with out having to read the whole book. I'll add about three or four 15 minute summary's and then have the Blinkist AI assistant do a few additional summaries on related materials (like a document, podcast episode, etc.) so that my notes are all together. If you were to get the pro version I'd say that would be worth it since you get both the Blinkist AI and your own personal daily recommendations. I also enjoy the new infographic style summaries that allow me to quickly visually review.
getAbstract
I reach for getAbstract when I need “workplace-learning” mechanics: exportable formats, multilingual coverage, and clean ways to distribute summaries. I like that Pro adds offline access plus downloads (PDF, ePub, MP3) and “Send to Kindle,” which fits teams that already read on e‑ink devices. It also leans into integrations with corporate learning stacks (LMS/LXP) rather than consumer gamification.
Instaread
Instaread is my pick when I just want a no-drama library of audio + text summaries and a way to roll it out to a small team. It has a dedicated “Teams” offering and keeps the promise simple: 15‑minute segments in audio or text, with a 7‑day trial and practical account rules like using the same subscription across up to 4 devices. If you don’t need spaced-repetition flashcards, that simplicity is the whole point.
