01 Is Expensify any Good? My expert Review

I have used Expensify a lot in work, and honestly, it's one of the best tools around when it comes to management of expenses. It's a very user-friendly interface that keeps everything traveling nicely on my phone and on my laptop... and that's great when I'm on multiple devices while on a business trip. For example, when I traveled overseas on our last client visit, it was super nice to be able to take pictures of my receipts with my phone just to save time and to ensure I don't lose paperwork that is important.


I also thought the OCR feature on Expensify was nice too. Expensify reads receipts like a champ, and I no longer had to read restaurant bills or taxi fares manually, which was a bonus that reduced the amount of annoying mistakes associated with manual entry. The OCR was fantastic, and it saved me on many occasions as I sent detailed reporting to clients in the billing process, especially if I was trying to ensure all details were accurate and easily understood.


But of course, it is not perfect. When I was entering expenses for a project in Argentina, the currency exchange rates occasionally did not match the market rates and I would spend time double-checking and making manual entries at the end of a month to ensure I did not make a mistake with reimbursement. While working with my colleagues in Asia, we also discovered that OCR didn't do to well with receipts not in the English language, because we went the extra mile on inputting the information for it to be correct.


Overall, I have had a good experience with it. Having the ability to organize expenses and easily tag them by projects made our accounting a lot easier. Sure, it would have been nice to have automatic report submissions on specific dates each month for our reporting cycles, but we are not entitled to these tools and the automation already provided us was a fantastic tool to begin with.


In short, yes I am a fan of Expensify. It does most of the headache of running expense management processes for all organisations, big and small. Sure it has its challenges with updating currencies and multilingual support, but its functional interface and powerful receipt analysis has yet to make it something I leave out of my professional toolkit.

    Expensify makes it incredibly easy for me to take a picture and move on. Its OCR is top-notch. The only time I need to intervene is when I'm inputting an expense that's entirely in Chinese, Japanese, or Thai. I might need to add something in the description if my accounts department requires detailed information. I do this because I like it and I review my own and others' expenses. Plus, it's legal, which is crucial. It's good enough for a legal audit and I can export a spreadsheet for my account if necessary. Usually, they have access and sort everything out without much input from me. I recall the old days of sticking receipts on paper and I can't ever go back. Whenever I hear others struggling with their expense reports, I'm always eager to tell them there's a better way! I hope I come across as helpful rather than annoying.
