My top 3 Internxt alternatives
By Frédéric Laffont, Chief Technology Officer
Dropbox
To get "one shared folder" across all my laptops & mobile devices I rely on Dropbox's Team Folders + Dropbox's file syncing capabilities. I prefer using Dropbox SmartSync (Cloud-Only Placeholders for Desktops), since I don't want to burn through all of my laptop's SSD storage by storing gigabytes of big-client archives in them. For sending files out to clients, I prefer using Dropbox Transfer. In fact, Dropbox says it will support file transfers of up to 100GB per transfer via this tool, making it an easy way to ship one giant video export to a client without having to invite that client into the entire workspace. The pricing for Dropbox is outlined on their public plan page. That page indicates Plus pricing at $9.99 / month, while Standard pricing is listed at $15/user/month.
Box
Box is the option I pick when “storage” is really a governed content system: its pricing page ties Business to unlimited storage, 5GB file uploads, unlimited e-signatures, and 1,500+ integrations. If you already run approvals through e-signature, Box’s native Box Sign (with plan-based entitlements) keeps the signature step inside the same permission model as the file itself.
Proton Drive
Proton Drive is what I reach for when I care about metadata privacy, not just encrypting file contents: it encrypts file and folder names and supports encrypted collaboration via Proton Docs/Sheets. For individuals, Proton’s plan page shows a free tier with 5 GB and a Drive Plus tier with 200 GB. For teams, Proton positions Drive Professional at 1 TB per user, and its business page spells out $7.99/user/month for that subscription.

Why is Dropbox a good alternative to Internxt?
Dropbox fits best when I’m supporting a team that lives in shared folders all day (agency pods, production teams, client-services ops) and needs predictable desktop sync behavior. The plan page highlights team folders, role-based admin controls, and “1 year to restore deleted files” on business tiers, which is the sort of guardrail that matters when multiple people touch the same deliverables. I also like that Dropbox calls out Transfer up to 100 GB, so a team can hand off large exports without building a separate download workflow. If someone’s switching from Internxt because they want fewer “storage app” moments and more “collaboration” moments, Dropbox’s emphasis on sharing controls (password protection) and the broader collaboration surface (PDF edits/signatures, branding) is usually where I see the payoff.
What are the differences between Dropbox and Internxt?
The alternatives listed alongside Internxt are: Dropbox, Box, Egnyte, Bitrix24, Slack, Google Workspace, mongoDB, and Proton Drive. Comparing Dropbox vs Internxt: Internxt’s model is explicitly client-side encryption before upload, with files broken into shards and distributed across its network, and it describes using your mnemonic as the encryption key. Internxt also describes Kyber 512 post-quantum encryption in its help center. Dropbox, by contrast, is optimized around collaboration features exposed directly in its plans table (team folders, admin roles, PDF edits/signatures, transfer up to 100 GB, and 256-bit AES + SSL/TLS). Practically, I treat Dropbox as “workflow-first sync,” while Internxt is “privacy-first storage,” especially if you want lifetime storage options (Internxt markets lifetime access via one-time payment plans).

Why is Box a good alternative to Internxt?
Box is the alternative I’d recommend to ops and IT teams who need storage to behave like a controlled content system: permissions, external collaborator rules, and tiered admin control matter as much as raw GB. Box’s pricing page is unusually explicit about enterprise constraints, file upload limits by tier and SOC/FedRAMP/HIPAA-oriented language on higher tiers, which maps to real procurement checklists. The biggest “why Box” differentiator for me is keeping content and process together: Box Sign entitlements vary by plan, and Box Relay ties workflow automation into things like Forms submissions and signature outcomes, which is the kind of end-to-end chain you can standardize across departments. If Internxt is the privacy-first choice, Box is the governance-first choice.
What are the differences between Box and Internxt?
Internxt leans into a zero-knowledge story (client-side encryption, mnemonic-based keying, and sharding across its network) and publicizes that it’s open-source. Box is built like an enterprise content layer: its pricing page emphasizes unlimited storage on Business and above, explicit file upload limits by tier (5GB Business, 15GB Business Plus, 50GB Enterprise, 150GB Enterprise Plus), and built-in e-signature via Box Sign. On workflow, Box Relay is positioned as automation that can be triggered by Box Forms submissions and signature outcomes, which is a different center of gravity than Internxt’s “store/share/sync.” In other words, I think of Internxt as a private drive replacement, and Box as a content governance + process platform that happens to include storage.

Get deal for freeProton Drive is a privacy-first cloud storage service built around end-to-end (zero-access) encryption, designed for people who don’t want their files mined, scanned, or monetized. What sets it apart from mainstream drives is that it encrypts file and folder names (not just contents) and offers secure sharing controls like password-protected, expiring links and access revocation. It also includes Proton Docs/Sheets for encrypted collaboration. Next, I’ll break down pros and cons, best-fit users, and practical alternatives.

Why is Proton Drive a good alternative to Internxt?
Proton Drive is my pick for privacy-sensitive individuals (journalists, activists, attorneys handling client docs) and small teams that want a mainstream-feeling drive while still getting zero-access encryption guarantees. Proton explicitly positions Drive as end-to-end encrypted with zero-access properties, and it keeps a free tier at 5 GB so you can test the workflow before migrating everything. What I like versus many “encrypted storage” tools is its attention to metadata: Proton Drive’s description calls out encrypting file and folder names, plus secure sharing controls like expiring links and revocation, and it mentions Proton Docs/Sheets for encrypted collaboration. For teams, Proton’s business page puts a simple sticker price on Drive Professional ($7.99/user/month, 1 TB per user), which makes it easier to budget than Internxt’s mix of subscription and lifetime positioning.
What are the differences between Proton Drive and Internxt?
Proton Drive and Internxt are closer philosophically than Dropbox/Box because both emphasize end-to-end / zero-access encryption. Proton states that, thanks to zero-access and end-to-end encryption, even Proton can’t access your files, and it offers a free plan with 5 GB. Internxt, meanwhile, describes encrypting files before they leave your device, using your mnemonic as the encryption key, and distributing file shards across its network; it also documents Kyber 512 post-quantum encryption. Feature-wise, Proton Drive is explicit about encrypting file and folder names and providing encrypted Proton Docs/Sheets collaboration, which is a concrete advantage for “metadata privacy.” For teams, Proton advertises Drive Professional at $7.99/user/month with 1 TB per user, while Internxt pushes one-time-payment lifetime plans in its pricing FAQ.

Google Workspace is the foundation of our day-to-day operations. Gmail with a custom domain makes client communication more professional, while Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Meet keep documents, internal processes, and meetings in one place. Real-time collaboration makes reviews and decisions much faster, especially when several people are involved in the same project. Administration can require more attention as the team grows, but the reliability, connected tools, and productivity gains make it worth the investment.
