01 Is DigitalOcean any Good? My expert Review

I have used Digital Ocean on many projects. The Digital Ocean platform is very easy to use, and I have successfully implemented a variety of projects on it; from small personal blogs, to a medium sized business application. This overview will summarize my thoughts from real life situations and experiences.

I really appreciate the ease of use and straightforward pricing. I remember working with a startup client to deploy their first web application. The straightforward and transparent pricing made it easy for us to budget and accurately estimate project costs, with no hidden surprises. This was particularly useful when working with budget-sensitive startups or smaller businesses, as this means they can scale their business confidently.

I have consistently found the uptime, and reliability of Digital Ocean's service to be very reliable. When we would manage a client's e-commerce website during busy holiday periods, we could confidently depend on their service with little downtime, and great responsiveness. The easy to use UI allows me to manage different aspects of my project very quickly from my browser, without needing to switch windows, and possibly use a complicated CLI command. For example, I can easily resize droplets or create a new domain in no time, without any hassle.

I have, however, had some challenges. The biggest issue, which could have potentially been disastrous, was when I upgraded a managed database for a client project, and it lost some data. Luckily, we had backups of backups ready to restore, but it was a critical reminder to keep backed up data, independently, on the side. I have also noticed some delays in getting responses from customer support when things get busy on their end. While I have experienced some minor annoyances, overall, Digital Ocean has been a great cloud hosting provider. As a developer, I appreciate how straightforward it is to use, and for small-to-medium sized businesses, how affordable it is to host cloud applications.

Startup-Friendly Speed, Visibility, and Easy Cloning

For a startup environment, DigitalOcean has been a practical choice because it lets us launch quickly and keep costs visible, and the Joinsecret credit gave us a nice cushion early on, but the real value has been the clean interface, dependable Droplets, and how easy it is to clone environments with snapshots

    Clean API and No-Surprises Billing

We host a few customer-facing apps on DigitalOcean and the balance is good: fast provisioning, clean API, and billing that doesn’t require detective work, plus the extra credits we got via Joinsecret covered our first experiments with Kubernetes and backups

    Better-Than-Expected Managed Kubernetes

We moved a side project to DigitalOcean Kubernetes and the experience was better than I expected, especially with managed node pools, straightforward load balancer setup, and monitoring that gave us enough visibility without adding a pile of extra tools

App Platform Speeds Deploys and SSL

We used DigitalOcean App Platform for a client portal and it saved time on deployment and SSL setup, though for more customized workloads we still prefer Droplets, so I’d say it’s great as long as you pick the right product for the job

Reliable Support and Low-Stress Ops Tools

Support has been pretty reliable in the moments that mattered, and features like snapshots, floating IPs, and cloud firewalls make day-to-day ops less stressful, even if some advanced enterprise features are lighter than what the biggest cloud vendors offer

Joinsecret Credit Brought Us In, DX Made Us Stay

I came in with a credit perk from Joinsecret worth around $200, and while that got my attention, I stayed because the developer experience is just straightforward, especially for basic VM hosting, managed Redis, and simple CI/CD pipelines tied to GitHub

    Control Without Cloud Complexity

DigitalOcean works well for teams that want enough infrastructure control without getting buried in cloud complexity, and I’ve had a good experience with VPC networking, reserved IPs, and the one-click marketplace images for quicker setup

Dont miss out on this deal

Honestly One of the greatest deals on this platform, the previous deal for digitalOcean was even greater $5000 worth of credits if im not mistaken, but still this deal is brilliant for starting agencies and solo entrepreneurs. The only downside is that usually when i take this offer i have to speak to support for them to activate my deal other wise the deal doesnt activate by itself so be careful of that

    Joinsecret Credits Made Testing Easy

I originally tried DigitalOcean because I had picked up about $200 in platform credit through Joinsecret, and it gave us enough room to test managed databases, object storage, and a staging server without rushing the decision, which was genuinely useful

Practical Managed Services and Great Docs

What I like most is how practical the platform feels: managed Postgres backups are easy to configure, Spaces works well for static assets, and the docs usually answer the exact question I have before I need to open a ticket
