01 Is Zoho Books any Good? My expert Review
When I evaluate accounting tools for SMBs, I look for three things: speed (how fast you can invoice and reconcile), control (roles, auditability, approvals), and scale (can it grow past “freelancer mode”). Zoho Books hits that sweet spot: it’s a modern, cloud-first bookkeeping system that covers quoting/invoicing, expenses, banking, reporting, projects, and inventory, without feeling like a clunky legacy accounting suite.

Capable for the Price + Strong API
For a product in this price range, Zoho Books is surprisingly capable. The recurring billing and customer statement features have helped us stay on top of late payers without awkward manual follow-up. The API is also better than I expected, which mattered because we needed to sync a few records with an internal system. Clear Approval Workflows & Roles
The best part for me has been the approval workflows and user roles. We have one person entering bills and another approving payments, and Zoho Books handles that separation well without turning into a heavyweight ERP. The dashboards are clear enough for a quick daily check. If you need very advanced reporting logic, you may still end up using Analytics or external tools

Client Portal That Speeds Up Approvals
We moved to Zoho Books after outgrowing spreadsheets, and the client portal has been one of the most useful parts. Customers can see estimates, approve them, and pay invoices without a lot of back and forth. The mobile app is also handy for checking overdue balances on the go. Inventory is fine for light needs, but I would not rely on it for a complex warehouse setup

Smooth Month-End & Reconciliation
Zoho Books has made month-end a lot less painful for our small team. Bank feeds are reliable, the reconciliation screen is easy to work through, and recurring invoices save us a surprising amount of time. Reporting is solid too, especially cash flow and receivables, though I still export a few custom views to Excel when I need something very specific

Zoho Books fits well if you already use other Zoho apps. We connect it with CRM and Expense, and that keeps customer records and reimbursements from drifting out of sync. Powerful Automations & Reliable VAT
What I like most is how well Zoho Books handles automations without being hard to set up. Payment reminders, recurring bills, and workflow rules cut down on routine admin work. VAT tracking has also been dependable for us.
