My top 3 Clay alternatives
By Frédéric Laffont, Chief Technology Officer
Apollo.io
Fast is what I want when I am moving "New ICP Hypothesis" to "Meetings Booked". Apollo.io allows me to accomplish this quickly using ONE Loop. The first step is filter accounts based on Head Count, Tech Stack, Job Titles; Then add contacts to your CRM, and add those contacts to your Sequences where you have A/B Tests. I like the fact that the Chrome extension works well with LinkedIn, allowing me to capture a user's profile, reveal their contact information and then use the built-in Dialer to make calls rather than jumping back-and-forth between applications. In addition to being seat-based (i.e. Basic, Professional, Organization) the levels within Apollo are defined by explicit limits (e.g. credits, sequences, number of emails per day) making it easier to manage budgets for all members of an actively working team.
ZoomInfo
ZoomInfo is my pick when the job is “account intelligence + operational control,” not just enrichment. In SalesOS, Engage handles multi-touch outreach while Chorus covers call/web-meeting recording, transcription, and coaching insights. On the ops side, Workflows are built for lead-to-account matching, deduplication/normalization, and Round Robin routing, which I usually see patched together with custom RevOps automation. Pricing is typically quote-based.
Cognism
Cognism wins for me in phone-first outbound where bad numbers waste entire call blocks. Diamond Data is positioned around phone-verified mobile numbers, and Diamonds-on-Demand lets you request verification for specific contacts (but you need the Diamond package). The Sales Companion Chrome Extension/Web App is built for prospecting on LinkedIn and websites, then pushing verified records into your CRM/engagement stack without CSV cleanup.

Less Tool Switching with Solid CRM Sync
Apollo.io has made prospecting less fragmented for our team. Before, we were bouncing between a database, an email tool, and a CRM all day. Now most of the work happens in one place, and the Salesforce sync has been smoother than I expected. I still clean lists before big sends, but that is true with any provider

Why is Apollo.io a good alternative to Clay?
I like Apollo.io for startup and SMB outbound teams that don’t want to stitch together “database + sequencer + dialer + reporting” on day one. SDRs can live inside Sequences (email steps plus tasks) and switch into the Dialer to call the same prospects without exporting lists to another calling tool, which reduces the usual handoff friction. For a sales manager, the win is that activity and sequence performance sit in the same product, so coaching can be tied to specific steps (template, timing, call outcomes) instead of “vibes.” The per-seat tiers and published usage limits (credits, sequences, and daily send caps by plan) are also easier for me to forecast than an actions-based automation meter when headcount grows.
What are the differences between Apollo.io and Clay?
Clay behaves like a GTM spreadsheet + orchestration layer: on its Free plan you get unlimited seats and tables, multi-provider waterfalls, Claygent enrichment, and Clay Sequencer, and your usage is tracked as Data Credits plus Actions. Apollo.io is a per-seat sales execution suite: prospecting data, Sequences, dialer-style calling, and workflow automation live together, and plan limits are expressed as credits + outreach constraints (like sequence counts and daily email caps by tier). If I’m iterating on “which providers/fields get me coverage?” Clay’s waterfall mindset fits; if I’m standardizing “how reps work leads every day?” Apollo’s sequence/task/calling flow becomes the operating system. In the same comparison set, the other Clay alternatives listed are ZoomInfo, Hunter, Lusha, Seamless.AI, Salesforge, FullEnrich, Prelo, and Cognism.

14-Day Trial That Highlighted Intent Filters & Saved Searches
We grabbed ZoomInfo through Joinsecret and had a 14-day trial period, which was honestly helpful because this is not the kind of platform you evaluate in one afternoon. By the end of the test, the intent filters and saved searches were the features that stood out most to our team

Why is ZoomInfo a good alternative to Clay?
I reach for ZoomInfo when I’m supporting an org that cares as much about governance as it does about raw contact coverage, think RevOps teams managing territories, routing, and data quality across multiple sales pods. The platform narrative includes Workflows that handle deduplication/normalization, lead-to-account matching, segmentation, and Round Robin assignment, which maps cleanly to real enterprise problems like duplicate accounts and inconsistent owner logic. On the rep enablement side, the combination of Engage (multi-touch engagement) plus Chorus (recording/transcription/insights/coaching) is useful when leadership wants consistent process and QA across calls and meetings. I don’t love the sales-led procurement loop for smaller teams, but it’s a realistic fit when you already buy software via annual contracts and need cross-team standardization.
What are the differences between ZoomInfo and Clay?
ZoomInfo is structured more like an enterprise GTM platform than a build-your-own enrichment workspace. In SalesOS, teams use Engage for multi-touch engagement and Chorus for call/web-meeting recording, transcription, insight generation, and coaching, so the “data layer” and “sales activity layer” are intentionally bundled. Their OperationsOS/DaaS material also emphasizes Workflows for data hygiene (deduplication, normalization), segmentation, lead-to-account matching, and routing via customizable Round Robin groups. Clay can run outreach too, but I treat it as orchestration around tables + waterfalls + actions; ZoomInfo is better when you want governed processes for how accounts, signals, and engagement tools fit together in a larger org. ZoomInfo pricing is generally sales-led and varies heavily by seats and add-ons.

Why is Cognism a good alternative to Clay?
I recommend Cognism to SDR teams that win with calling and need higher confidence in mobile coverage, especially when GDPR/CCPA concerns and DNC practices are part of the operating reality. Cognism’s Diamond Data and Diamonds-on-Demand are built around phone verification (and they’re gated behind a Diamond package), which is exactly the kind of constraint that can matter more than “more rows” if your team’s KPI is live conversations. I also like it for reps who prospect directly in-browser: Sales Companion is designed as a Chrome Extension/Web App that sits on top of LinkedIn and websites and supports CRM/engagement integrations, so the workflow is “find → verify → push,” not “export → clean → import.” Compliance-wise, Cognism positions itself as GDPR and CCPA compliant and mentions scrubbing mobiles against DNC lists in multiple countries, which is a practical checkbox for teams expanding into new regions.
What are the differences between Cognism and Clay?
Cognism is primarily a data platform with a prospecting surface, whereas Clay is a workflow builder that can blend many providers. Cognism’s Sales Companion is explicitly a Chrome Extension/Web App for prospecting on LinkedIn and websites, then syncing contacts into CRM and engagement tools. Its standout mechanic is Diamond Data plus Diamonds-on-Demand: phone-verified mobile numbers, with a Diamond package required to access those verification features. Clay, by contrast, is built around multi-provider waterfalls and a data marketplace (150+ providers) so I can chain sources and only “spend” when a row gets enriched, then trigger downstream Actions. If my bottleneck is reachability by phone, Cognism’s verification concept is the differentiator; if my bottleneck is assembling a repeatable enrichment + automation pipeline across many data types, Clay’s table-first model fits better. Clay also offers a self-serve trial framed around credits.

Cleaner CRM Data for Better Campaigns
As part of the marketing team, I rely on accurate data to run campaigns. Before Seamless.AI, our CRM was full of outdated emails and missing phone numbers. Now, with Data Enrichment, I can update entire lists with verified information. Our last email campaign had a 20% higher open rate simply because fewer messages bounced, which made a huge difference in our results.

A complete outbound workflow in one platform
Before switching to Salesforge, our outbound stack involved several different tools for lead sourcing, email sequences, and analytics. Managing everything was messy and time consuming. With Salesforge, we run the entire workflow in one place. For instance, I can find new prospects with Leadsforge, push them into a campaign, personalize the messaging, and track replies without leaving the platform.

Replaced three tools with one subscription
I was paying separately for a lead database, an email sequencer, and an enrichment tool. Cancelled all three. Gojiberry does the whole chain and the waterfall enrichment actually finds valid emails more often than my old provider did, my bounce rate dropped noticeably. My only gripe is the 1,800 contacts per month cap on the Pro plan, we hit it faster than expected.
