01 Is PureVPN any Good? My expert Review

My experience with PureVPN has been mostly mixed over the last eight months. For accessing content from around the world via streaming, PureVPN works well. Using PureVPN, I could successfully view BBC iPlayer in the United States and Japanese Netflix while abroad (no problems at all). In addition, PureVPN provided consistent fast enough video streaming speeds for what I needed most.

However, I experienced several annoyances. There were two instances of the PureVPN client crashing on my Windows laptop during important video calls, so I had to use ExpressVPN for that meeting. In addition, the response time from PureVPN's customer support was very poor. It took nearly two days to receive an adequate response regarding my issue of dropped connections on certain servers.

PureVPN does offer a good deal of value to the average user who wants basic video streaming and basic privacy features; however, a professional wanting maximum reliability will likely find better options than PureVPN. PureVPN offers a competitive pricing structure relative to premium VPN providers, and the split-tunneling capability offered by PureVPN has been helpful in allowing me to connect to domestic banking websites and still keep the rest of my data encrypted. Additionally, PureVPN's kill-switch function operates as expected to give me comfort when downloading sensitive company documents.

02 Pros and cons from reviewers

Pros from reviewers

  • Military-grade encryption
PureVPN implements AES 256-bit encryption to protect your data and online activities from hackers, ISPs, and government surveillance, ensuring maximum privacy and security

  • Global server network
Access to over 6,500 servers in 78+ countries allows you to bypass geo-restrictions, stream content from anywhere, and enjoy fast connection speeds worldwide

  • No-logs policy
PureVPN maintains a strict no-logs policy that has been independently audited, meaning your browsing history, connection logs, and personal data are never stored or shared with third parties

  • Multi-device support
Connect up to 10 devices simultaneously across various platforms including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, and routers, protecting all your devices with a single subscription

  • Split tunneling feature
Route specific apps or websites through the VPN while allowing others to access the internet directly, giving you complete control over your traffic and optimizing bandwidth usage for different activities

Cons from reviewers

  • Limited streaming reliability
While PureVPN claims to unblock streaming services, users frequently report inconsistent access to platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer, with servers being detected and blocked regularly requiring constant server switching

  • Questionable logging policy history
Despite current no-logs claims, PureVPN has a controversial past where they cooperated with FBI investigations in 2017 by providing user logs, raising concerns about privacy commitments and trustworthiness

  • Inconsistent connection speeds
Many users experience significant speed drops when connected to PureVPN servers, particularly on distant server locations, with performance varying greatly depending on time of day and server load

  • Complex interface and feature overload
The application interface can be overwhelming for beginners with numerous features, settings, and options that aren't always intuitive, making it difficult for non-technical users to configure optimal settings

  • Customer support response delays
While 24/7 support is advertised, actual response times can be slow especially for complex technical issues, with live chat agents sometimes providing generic troubleshooting steps rather than specialized solutions

Fast Nearby Servers with Useful Ping/Load Info

Speeds have been better than I expected for a VPN, especially on nearby servers, and I like that PureVPN shows ping and load before I connect, which makes it easier to pick a server that actually works well
