I view X (Twitter) Ads as a paid channel to enter into an active conversation – not "target demographic." In Ads Manager, you can build campaigns with targeted audiences, budgeting control, and analytics on your performance , this is similar to how most teams will need to go from publishing organically to a repeatable process for acquiring customers.
What impressed me most is the targeting depth that’s uniquely native to X: keyword and conversation targeting, event targeting, post engager retargeting, and follower lookalikes. This makes X strong for launches, thought-leadership distribution, and product-led brands that benefit from timely relevance (e.g., “when people talk about X, show them Y”).
In terms of creative, you don't have to stick to a single feed ad. X has a variety of formats such as Website and App Cards, Dynamic Product Ads, Collection Ads, and premium placements like Timeline Takeover and Spotlight Takeover. As long as you're investing in performance measurement, X also offers conversion tracking through either the X Pixel or a server-side Conversion API , which is critical for teams that are driving revenue per ad spend (ROAS).
The trade-offs are real: JoinSecret reviewers highlight a learning curve, limited creative freedom, and the risk of negative feedback, X is a reply-heavy environment and ads can spark public pushback. I also see performance as more variable than Meta/Google in many accounts, and some brands remain cautious about brand-safety dynamics on the platform.
X Ads is worth it for brands that can create native creative that is conversation first and be able to iterate quickly using real time analytics. If you require maximum predictability over your advertising, you may find a larger intent-based channel is better suited for you , but if you need to reach niche influencers and participate in real-time moments, X is difficult to compete with.

B2B SaaS and developer tools
Great for targeting tech conversations and competitor/follower lookalikes, then retargeting engagers to webinars, demos, or documentation pages with measurable conversion tracking.
Startups launching a product
Ideal for launch windows where you need fast awareness and real-time iteration, X’s event/keyword targeting and live feedback loops reward teams that optimize daily.
Ecommerce and DTC marketers
A strong fit if you can feed a catalog into Dynamic Product Ads and use the X Pixel/Conversion API to tie spend to add-to-cart and purchase outcomes.
Brands with strong organic presence on X
Best when you already post consistently and want to amplify top performers, post engager targeting helps you scale what’s already resonating without starting cold.
Small marketing teams testing paid social
Useful when you need flexible budgets and actionable optimization guidance; reviewers frequently mention analytics, optimization suggestions, and a learning curve that becomes manageable.

Strong Retargeting with Fast Iteration
Twitter Ads has been a practical channel for content distribution. We promoted thought leadership threads and got both traffic and decent secondary engagement from people sharing them organically. I like the audience builder and the fact that campaign setup does not feel bloated. One nice surprise was getting additional ad credit through Joinsecret after our initial 250 spend, which gave us room to test more audience segments early on

Thought Leadership Distribution + Easy Setup
My experience with Twitter Ads has been positive mostly because it lets me test angles quickly without waiting days to see if something lands. Engagement campaigns are where I have seen the strongest performance, and the platform does a good job showing which tweet variations are pulling their weight. It still requires close monitoring because costs can rise fast on broad targeting, but if you keep the audience focused it can be very effective

Quick Angle Testing with Engagement Focus
I would not use Twitter Ads for every objective, but for reaching journalists, founders, and tech audiences it is genuinely useful. Follower lookalike targeting helped us get in front of people who were already similar to the accounts our customers follow. Setup was fairly quick, and the creative requirements are not overly complicated. Through Joinsecret I also got an extra ad balance after a 250 spend, which was a nice bonus without changing how we planned campaigns

Reaching Journalists & Tech Audiences with Lookalikes
Twitter Ads works well if you treat it like a real-time channel instead of a set-and-forget ad platform. I have had the best results with short copy, one clear CTA, and campaigns built around trending topics or industry news. The analytics are good enough to see what is resonating, though I still export data when I want deeper analysis. For brand visibility and traffic spikes, it has earned a place in our mix

Trending-Topic Campaigns for Visibility Spikes
We used Twitter Ads for a B2B webinar and were surprised by how well conversation-focused creatives worked compared with polished brand graphics. The platform is strongest when the ad feels native to the feed. I also liked that I could cap spend tightly while experimenting. We started with a promo from Joinsecret where putting in 250 got us 500 extra in ad credit, and that made the testing phase much less stressful

Fast Awareness & Message Testing
Twitter Ads has been solid for driving awareness fast, especially when I want to test messaging on a niche audience. The keyword and follower targeting are useful if you already know which communities you want to reach, and the reporting makes it easy to spot which creatives are actually getting engagement

Native-Feed Webinar Wins + Tight Spend Control
What I appreciate about Twitter Ads is how easy it is to match campaigns to what people are actively talking about. The interest targeting is decent, but the real value for me has been using custom audiences and testing several versions of ad copy at once. The interface still has some rough edges, and approvals can be a little inconsistent, but once a campaign is live it is simple to optimize based on clicks, follows, and engagement

B2B Follower Growth That Feels Legit With Bio + Pinned Post
For B2B, follower campaigns have been surprisingly effective when paired with a tight bio and pinned post, and the audience growth feels more “real” than some other networks where you get a lot of empty accounts

Joinsecret $500 Credit Helps Fund a Real Learning Phase
We got a $500 ad credit through Joinsecret when we opened a new account, and it made it easier to run a proper learning phase instead of underfunding the first week, though you still need solid creative for it to matter

Functional Analytics for Quick CTR/CPA Comparisons and Exports
The analytics dashboard is not pretty, but it’s functional: I like being able to slice by campaign and ad group, export results, and compare CTR and CPA across creatives without jumping through hoops
