01 Is tl;dv - AI Meeting Assistant any Good? My expert Review

tl;dv has changed the way I approach and manage meetings since I began to use it six months ago. In fact, as a person who is constantly juggling multiple client calls, internal syncs, and product demos per day, the ability to have a meeting record, transcript, and time-stamped recordings (with the assistance of AI) has truly been life-changing. The most impactful part of using tl;dv is the ability to skip large portions of a long meeting and go directly to the relevant section(s), allowing me to quickly identify key points discussed within the meeting.

Additionally, the integration of Zoom and Google Meet functions perfectly with tl;dv, although, I noticed a small amount of delay with Microsoft Teams at first. However, the generated summaries produced by the AI function of tl;dv were surprisingly accurate for structured conversation topics such as sales calls and sprint planning meetings.

Recently, I used tl;dv to document a complex technical discussion with our development team and was able to find specific code references from a very lengthy transcript, which greatly reduced the amount of confusion I had later regarding what was said and how we would implement it.

While tl;dv has been incredibly beneficial for documentation and follow-up items, there are still some issues. At times, the speaker ID feature may struggle if many people are speaking at once and talking over one another (a common occurrence during brainstorming). Additionally, while the free version of tl;dv has its benefits, it does have limitations and once my team began to rely on it heavily, the limitations led to the need for a paid subscription much quicker than anticipated.

In summary, tl;dv has become an invaluable tool for documenting and following up on meetings, however, due to the potential for inaccuracies in some cases, it will require additional manual review for the most critical meetings in order to ensure maximum accuracy.

Cons from reviewers

  • Limited Free Plan Features
The free tier of tldv has significant restrictions including limited recording hours per month and reduced access to AI-powered features, which may force growing teams to upgrade sooner than anticipated

  • Learning Curve for Advanced Features
While basic recording is straightforward, mastering the full suite of AI capabilities, custom vocabulary, and integration workflows requires time investment that can slow initial adoption

  • Integration Limitations
Despite supporting major platforms, tldv may not seamlessly integrate with all CRM systems or niche business tools that some organizations rely on, potentially creating workflow gaps

  • Dependency on Internet Connection
As a cloud-based SaaS solution, tldv requires stable internet connectivity for recording and processing meetings, which can be problematic in areas with unreliable connections or during network outages

  • Privacy and Data Security Concerns
Storing sensitive meeting recordings and transcripts on third-party servers may raise compliance issues for organizations in highly regulated industries or those with strict data sovereignty requirements.
