01 Is Fellow.app any Good? My expert Review

Using Fellow for approximately 6 months to organize team Sync-Ups and One-On-One’s, Fellow has had a substantial impact on how we do meetings as an organization.

Most beneficial is the Collaborative Agenda feature of Fellow. Before each of our Monday Stand Up meetings, Team Members can add their discussion topics directly to the shared agenda. This eliminates the first 10 minutes of meeting where everyone is trying to figure out what they want to talk about.

Additionally, Fellow’s Action Item Tracking feature has been very beneficial when having One-On-One’s with Direct Reports. For example, when my Designer requested access to a new tool 3 weeks prior in our One-On-One meeting, Fellow continued to carry this Action Item forward until I finally completed it. There are no longer forgotten commitments or awkward “Did we ever talk about that?” questions.

That being said, Fellow may not be the best option for every use case. Initially, I found the interface somewhat confusing due to all the different options available and while the features have been beneficial for Structured Recurring Meetings and Building Better Management Habits, for quick Informal Check-Ins, it feels like overkill. Additionally, I would like to see a more robust Mobile App so I can easily view notes on the fly; currently, I find the Mobile App to be less user-friendly than the Desktop Version.

In conclusion, I believe Fellow has been well worth the investment for Structured Recurring Meetings and Developing Better Management Habits, it has made me a More Accountable Manager and my Team appreciates this.

Cons from reviewers

  • Limited customization
While Fellow offers some customization options, it may not be flexible enough to meet the unique needs of every organization. Some users may find that the platform's features and workflows are too rigid or not tailored to their specific requirements.

  • Steep Learning Curve
New users often report that Fellow's interface and numerous features can be overwhelming initially, requiring substantial time investment to master all capabilities

  • Limited Free Plan
The free version of Fellow has significant restrictions on features and meeting capacity, making it insufficient for growing teams who need full functionality

  • Learning curve
Some users may experience a learning curve when first adopting Fellow, particularly if they are not familiar with AI-powered tools. Training and support may be required to ensure everyone can use the platform effectively.

  • Integration Limitations
While Fellow integrates with major platforms, some users experience sync issues and find the integration options limited compared to competitors, particularly with project management tools

  • Pricing Structure
The cost per user can become expensive for larger organizations, and the pricing tiers may not align well with the needs of mid-sized teams seeking specific features

  • Mobile Experience
The mobile app functionality is reported to be less robust than the desktop version, with some features unavailable or difficult to navigate on smaller screens

  • Cost
The cost of Fellow may be a barrier for smaller organizations or teams with limited budgets. It's important to weigh the benefits of the platform against the cost to determine if it's a worthwhile investment.

  • Dependence on internet connectivity
Fellow relies on a stable internet connection to function properly. This could be a limitation for teams working in areas with poor connectivity or during travel.

  • Potential for over-reliance
There's a potential for users to become over-reliant on Fellow, which could diminish their own note-taking and organizational skills. It's important to strike a balance between using the platform and maintaining personal skills.

    Actually Adopted After the Trial

Fellow.app is one of the few meeting tools we kept after a trial because people actually used it, mostly thanks to the clean interface, solid templates, and the fact that our first month on the Business plan came through Joinsecret, which made the rollout easier to justify internally

    Standardized Meetings Without Feeling Robotic

I was skeptical at first, but Fellow.app has helped standardize meetings without making them feel robotic, and since we got the first month of the Business tier via Joinsecret, trying the advanced permissions and analytics felt like a low-risk decision

Private Notes for Managers and Retros

We use Fellow.app for manager check-ins and project retros, and the private notes feature is useful when you need to keep personal context without cluttering the shared agenda

Great with Slack/Google Calendar + Business Trial Value

Fellow.app works well if your team already lives in Slack and Google Calendar, and in our case the Joinsecret perk for the first month of the Business plan gave us enough room to see whether the admin features were actually worth it

Notes, Decisions, and Tasks in One Place

I like that Fellow.app keeps meeting notes, decisions, and tasks in one place, especially with the action item tracking and reminders, although the mobile experience could still be a bit smoother for quick edits

    Templates That Make 1:1s Better

We started using Fellow.app mainly for team meeting agendas, but the real win was the feedback and 1:1 templates since managers now come prepared and conversations feel less repetitive

    Perfect Summaries for Busy Schedules

I often bounce from one meeting to another, which makes it hard to retain all the key takeaways. Fellow automatically generates clean, concise summaries that I can skim afterward or share with colleagues who couldn’t attend. Just yesterday, I missed a sprint planning session—but thanks to Fellow’s summary, I was fully up to speed in under five minutes. It’s like having a personal assistant for every meeting.

Meetings That Actually Stay on Track

Using Fellow’s collaborative agendas has completely transformed how we prepare for meetings. For our weekly marketing sync, we now build a shared agenda beforehand, so everyone comes in aligned. The best part? Fellow keeps us on track by displaying the agenda during the meeting. It’s helped us cut our meeting time by almost 25% while still covering everything we need. Meetings feel focused and productive, not like they’re dragging on.

Finally, No More Forgotten Action Items

Before using Fellow, it was too easy for tasks discussed in meetings to slip through the cracks. Now, the platform tracks action items in real time and sends reminders to the team. Last week, we had a product roadmap meeting, and Fellow automatically listed out who was responsible for each next step. No one had to ask, “Who’s doing what?”—it was all there, clearly assigned and followed up on. Total game-changer for accountability.

Note-Taking That Doesn’t Break the Flow

I used to split my focus between contributing to meetings and jotting everything down. With Fellow’s automated note-taking, I can fully participate without worrying about missing key points. In a recent client call, Fellow captured detailed notes and even summarized the client’s concerns and feedback. I shared the summary with my team in seconds—it saved me at least 30 minutes and ensured nothing was lost in translation.
