My top 3 Microsoft To Do alternatives
By Shubhashree Halder, Content Manager
Todoist
As an efficient and creative task management tool, Todoist is great for keeping you organized and on track with your work. You can create tasks, due dates and assign others with tasks. An exciting feature they provide is the ability to put tasks into projects, which is helpful to manage multiple accounts. For instance, if you went to organize a conference, you could create a project about conference planning and then assign a task to each piece of work involved to prepare for the conference. Your tasks would include, "book venue" or "send invites" etc., which simplifies the task process. Todoist allows you to set priorities and you can create reminders, so you are notified before the due date, which is a great feature.
In my experience, Todoist is far superior to Microsoft to do. It is intuitive, flexible and has some really good features which I believe do increase productivity.
OneNote
OneNote, another Microsoft product, is more than just a to-do list app. It's a digital notebook where you can jot down notes, ideas, and to-do lists all in one place. You can create different notebooks for different purposes - for instance, one for work and another for personal use. Within each notebook, you can create sections and pages to further organize your notes. For example, in your work notebook, you might have a section for meeting notes and another for project ideas.
Trello
Trello is a project management tool that uses boards, lists, and cards to help you organize your tasks visually. Each board represents a project or a workflow, and within each board, you can create multiple lists (for example, To Do, In Progress, Done). Each card represents a task or an item. You can add details to the cards such as due dates, checklists, labels, and attachments. This makes Trello ideal for collaborative projects where multiple people are working together. For example, if you're developing a new software product with your team, you can use Trello to track the progress of different tasks and ensure everyone is on the same page.

Why is Todoist a good alternative to Microsoft To Do?
I find Microsoft To Do a great alternative to Todoist for several reasons. Firstly, it seamlessly integrates with other Microsoft applications such as Outlook and Teams, making task management more efficient for those already using the Microsoft ecosystem. Secondly, Microsoft To Do offers a simple and clean user interface which is easy to navigate and understand. Features like smart lists, steps (subtasks), file attachments, notes, reminders, and due dates are all included in the free version of Microsoft To Do. Lastly, unlike Todoist which has a premium version, all features of Microsoft To Do are available for free. This makes it a cost-effective choice for individuals and businesses looking for a comprehensive task management tool.

OneNote compared to Microsoft To Do
Microsoft To Do is a better solution for customer support than OneNote: 4.5 vs 4.4
Microsoft To Do pricing plans are more competitive than OneNote: 4.7 vs 4.5
Microsoft To Do is more versatile than OneNote: 27 vs 7
Why is OneNote a good alternative to Microsoft To Do?
I find Microsoft To Do to be a great alternative to OneNote due to its simplicity and clarity. Unlike OneNote, which offers a wide array of tools and features that can sometimes feel overwhelming, Microsoft To Do is straightforward and easy to use. It allows you to create simple lists for different tasks, set reminders, and even share your lists with others. It's also integrated with Outlook Tasks, making it even more convenient for those who use Microsoft's email service. Plus, its cross-platform availability means you can access your to-do lists from any device- be it your phone, tablet, or computer. While OneNote is a powerful tool for note-taking and organization, if you're looking for a simpler way to manage your tasks and reminders, Microsoft To Do is certainly worth considering.
What are the differences between OneNote and Microsoft To Do?
I have found that Microsoft To Do and OneNote are both useful productivity tools, but they serve different purposes. Microsoft To Do is primarily a task management tool. It allows me to create tasks, set due dates, and organize them into lists. It's a great tool for keeping track of what I need to do and when I need to do it.
On the other hand, OneNote is a note-taking app. It's more about content creation and organization. I can take notes, create drawings, record audio, and even clip web pages. It's more versatile in terms of the types of content I can create and store. Unlike Microsoft To Do which is linear and task-oriented, OneNote is more free-form and flexible.
Overall, while both tools help with productivity, Microsoft To Do is focused on task management while OneNote is geared towards note-taking and content organization.

Trello Excels at Simplicity
Trello appears visually appealing and is very user-friendly for me. Its straightforward interface enables me to quickly grasp how to structure my tracking. However, I am not fond of the restriction on the number of custom fields. If I require custom fields now, I will likely need more in the future. I don't like being limited in the number of fields, which forces me to operate within the tool's constraints rather than my own understanding. I don't want to pay for something as basic as a field. I would prefer to be charged for baselining, enhanced reporting, or more advanced features, rather than being nickel and dimed for fields.

Why is Trello a good alternative to Microsoft To Do?
I find Microsoft To Do a great alternative to Trello for several reasons. Firstly, it seamlessly integrates with other Microsoft applications like Outlook and Teams, making it easier for those already using the Microsoft ecosystem. Secondly, its interface is clean, simple, and very user-friendly. It allows you to create lists, tasks, and subtasks, similar to Trello's board and card system but without the visual clutter. Thirdly, it has a smart daily planner tool called 'My Day' which suggests tasks based on your habits and deadlines. Lastly, unlike Trello which charges for certain features in its premium versions, Microsoft To Do is completely free. It offers all its features without any hidden costs. This makes it a cost-effective choice for individuals or small teams looking for an efficient task management tool.
What are the differences between Trello and Microsoft To Do?
I compared the 2 services and noticed that Microsoft To Do and Trello, while both task management tools, offer different features and interfaces. Microsoft To Do is primarily a personal task manager. It allows me to create simple lists of tasks, set reminders, and track my progress. On the other hand, Trello is more of a project management tool. It presents tasks visually on a board, making it easy to see the status of each task at a glance. Trello also supports collaboration with multiple users, making it ideal for team projects. In contrast, while Microsoft To Do does allow sharing of lists, its collaboration features are not as robust as Trello's. In summary, I would choose Microsoft To Do for personal task management and Trello for collaborative project management.
