My top 2 Ramp alternatives
By Frédéric Laffont, Chief Technology Officer
I have explored various alternatives to Ramp, a corporate card and expense management platform. Here are three of them:
Brex
Brex is a corporate card designed specifically for startups, e-commerce businesses, and life sciences companies. It provides flexible credit limits—often up to ten times higher than typical corporate cards—and offers instant approval without requiring a personal guarantee. Startups can use Brex to streamline expense management and take advantage of higher credit limits that better support their growth.
If you're considering Brex as an alternative to Ramp, it's a strong option worth exploring. While Ramp is known for its intuitive expense management features and cost-saving tools, Brex stands out with its generous credit limits and simplified approval process, making it particularly appealing for fast-growing startups or businesses needing greater financial flexibility.
Expensify
Expensify is an expense management tool that simplifies the way businesses report and approve expenses. It offers features like receipt scanning, corporate card reconciliation, and expense report automation. A traveling salesperson, for example, can use Expensify to scan receipts on the go, making it easier to submit expense reports and get reimbursed quickly.

Scales for Startups + Bank-and-Expense Tool Replacement with Bonus
Brex has been a good fit for our startup because it scales better than a traditional bank plus separate expense software, and getting the Joinsecret incentive with 50k points tied to a 100k account funding was a nice bonus that came up naturally during setup

Why is Brex a good alternative to Ramp?
As a business owner, I find Ramp to be an excellent alternative to Brex. One of the main reasons is its transparent and straightforward pricing. Unlike Brex, which has a complex fee structure, Ramp offers 1.5% cash back on all purchases, making it simpler and more predictable. Moreover, Ramp provides higher credit limits that can help businesses manage their cash flow more effectively. It also offers real-time spend tracking and automated expense management tools that save time and reduce errors. Furthermore, Ramp's integration with accounting software like QuickBooks and Xero makes financial management even more seamless. Lastly, their customer service is highly responsive, providing quick solutions to any issues or queries. Therefore, for its simplicity, high credit limits, advanced features, and excellent customer service, I consider Ramp a great alternative to Brex.

Utilized Expensify for my NY Trip
I used Expensify for my job interview trip to NY. All my expenses including airfare, meals, hotel, Airbnb, and car transportation were managed through my Expensify account. I was reimbursed the next day after my trip as all my expenditures were transparent to my prospective employer.

Why is Expensify a good alternative to Ramp?
I've found Ramp to be a great alternative to Expensify due to several key factors. Firstly, Ramp offers 1.5% cash back on all purchases, which can lead to significant savings over time. Secondly, they provide a robust suite of expense management tools that are easy to use and highly customizable. This means you can easily track, categorize, and manage all your business expenses in one place.
Moreover, Ramp doesn't charge any fees for its services while Expensify does. The platform also integrates seamlessly with accounting software like QuickBooks and Xero, making it easier to maintain accurate financial records. Lastly, their customer service is excellent - they're quick to respond and always willing to help. All these features make Ramp a solid choice for businesses looking for an efficient and cost-effective expense management solution.

Exploring the Strengths and Weaknesses of SAP Concur
Overall, I'm fairly satisfied with SAP Concur. I don't travel often, so the time it takes to book and report expenses is bearable. As an admin, setting up new users can be complicated and I can't do it without notes, but this could be more related to my company's policies than the software itself. Reimbursing expenses is simple and practical. However, the online booking feature can be time-consuming. When I select flights and try to book, another screen appears with alternative flights, which extends the process.

Billable Expenses Converted to Invoices Easily
What I like most about QuickBooks is how easy it is to separate billable expenses and turn them into invoices. That has helped us stop missing small charges that used to slip through. The learning curve was there at first, but once the chart of accounts was set up properly, daily use became pretty simple

Get deal for freeDext is a bookkeeping automation platform that turns receipts, invoices, and bank documents into clean, publish-ready accounting entries. What sets it apart is how “pre-accounting” it feels: capture documents by mobile scan, email-in, or upload, apply supplier rules and approvals, then sync into tools like Xero or QuickBooks with far less manual coding. It’s especially strong for accountants managing multiple clients and SMBs that want real-time spend visibility. Next, I’ll break down pros, cons, ideal users, and alternatives.

Effortless Operation with Airbase
My overall experience with Airbase has been fantastic. It has allowed us to close more accurately and promptly. We no longer have difficulties determining the expenditure on various cards as they have all been pre-categorized. Despite the initial setup taking a bit longer, it's worth it for the precision. The best feature of Airbase is its seamless integration with QBO. This enables me to establish prepaids on Airbase that automatically sync to QBO for a monthly close. Cards are automatically programmed to charge a specific GL code, removing the need to revisit monthly to determine the expenditure and where to charge it. However, when making some entries, it doesn't adopt a new naming convention but uses the most recent journal entry naming convention for the journal entry title, which can be confusing. We switched to Airbase because we desired more accuracy, promptness, and a comprehensive product.

Why is Airbase a good alternative to Ramp?
As an aviation enthusiast, I find Airbase a compelling alternative to Ramp. The primary reason lies in its robust expense management system. Unlike Ramp, Airbase provides a comprehensive solution that covers all non-payroll business spending including cards, checks, and international transfers. This makes it easier for businesses to manage their expenses from one platform.
Airbase also offers real-time reporting which is a significant advantage over Ramp. With real-time reporting, businesses can have instant access to their financial data, enabling faster and more informed decision-making. Furthermore, Airbase integrates seamlessly with accounting systems like QuickBooks and Xero, providing a streamlined experience.
Finally, the superior customer support of Airbase sets it apart. While both platforms offer customer support, Airbase's prompt and efficient service is often highlighted as a key strength. Therefore, for comprehensive expense management, real-time reporting and excellent customer service, I consider Airbase a strong alternative to Ramp.
What are the differences between Airbase and Ramp?
I have come to understand the distinct differences between an airbase and a ramp. An airbase, also known as an airfield or airport, is a large area where aircraft can take off and land. It typically includes runways, hangars, control towers, and often facilities for maintenance and refueling. Airbases are designed to support the operations of aircraft on a larger scale.
A ramp, Conversely, is a specific part of an airbase. Sometimes referred to as an apron or tarmac, it's essentially a parking area for aircraft when they are not in use. It's where planes are loaded and unloaded, refueled, or boarded by passengers. The ramp is not used for takeoff or landing. So in essence, while all ramps are part of an airbase, not all parts of an airbase are ramps.

Nothing works
Difficulty related to the fact that transfers cannot be made to another account beyond this prohibition. Soldo blocks the card without giving a reason. Difficulty withdrawing cash at an ATM when my account is positive and I have correctly set up the services for my card VLAN. Same, transaction declined without a real explanation; no advisor available on weekends, so if your card is blocked, too bad for you. It's really not serious; that's why I'm leaving a negative review. Why block the card instead of simply letting us know that the transaction isn't possible? I am absolutely not satisfied with this card.
