01 Is Snapchat Ads any Good? My expert Review

Snapchat Ads have presented both positive and negative experiences for my e-commerce business in the last 8 months.

Snapchat excels at reaching the Gen Z demographic that I needed to target for my streetwear brand. The AR Lens campaign I ran had the highest level of user engagement I have ever seen - on average users spent 20 seconds on our virtual try on AR lens.

There are no other platforms like Snapchat that allow this level of user interaction.

The biggest challenge I faced with Snapchat Ads was the steepness of the learning curve. I had many failed attempts implementing the Snap Pixel, and I still struggle with getting accurate conversion data versus Facebooks platform.

I also found that my Cost Per Acquisition (CPA) can vary wildly from one week to another, and I do not always understand why. Campaign optimization through continuous monitoring is not ideal for small teams.

One thing that really stood out to me was how effective the Story Ad format is for Snapchat Ads. I reused Instagram content for the Story Ad format and experienced a 30% lower CPM than using comparable formats on competing platforms.

Also, because the Snap Audience is less ad fatigued than most other social media platforms, our creatives were able to perform well for much longer periods of time before needing to be refreshed or changed.

In conclusion, while Snapchat Ads is a great way to reach very specific demographics and creative forward brands, you will need to be patient and willing to experiment to achieve success. This is not a "set and forget" type of advertising platform, and may not be as beneficial for budget conscious advertisers looking to maximize their ROi early on.
