Free

Pricing: $0 (Freemium)

Best for:

Individuals who want to test the platform's core features with minimal usage and limited training data

The free version is basically a demo - it allows for the evaluation of an idea, or simply to give users a chance to try out Chatbase as a user. It has a single basic AI (AI Agent) with fast models and 50 monthly messages. While this should be sufficient to determine whether Chatbase will perform the necessary functions for your needs; the primary limitations are that the size of your training data is limited to 400 KB and once your AI Agent is inactive for 14 consecutive days, it will be deleted. This free version is excellent for uploading a very small FAQ document and embedding a chatbot on a personal website to observe how it behaves. It is ideal for the person who is merely curious about using AI agents, or students wanting to learn more about AI agents, and not intended for commercial purposes. However, it is a perfect first step into the more robust features offered by higher tiers.

Hobby

Pricing: $40 / month

Best for:

Solo developers or small personal projects that require API access, basic analytics, and a moderate volume of messages

With Hobby plans, you start to see something that can be both useful and functional as it relates to your first deployment. For developers, individual founders, or serious side-projects, Hobby plans are a great choice; with an additional 2000 messages and access to higher quality conversational models (i.e., OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.) you will also receive far superior conversations. In addition to 40MB of training data and unlimited links, this will allow you to create a competent agent; the access to the API and basic analytics included in the Hobby plan, however, make this move from a simple embed into a real connected application. This will be the most cost-effective option if you have a smaller but very engaged user base that requires reliable, high-quality answers.

Standard

Pricing: $150 / month

Best for:

Small businesses and growing teams that need multiple AI agents, collaboration features with three seats, and higher message credit capacity

The Chatbase Standard plan represents our first full-fledged business plan. This is when you are going past a one-person/one-agent model. We give you 12,000 message credits, which is a good boost from our base plan and your message credit count increases by 2 AI Agents. We believe it is very important to be able to run a Sales Agent and a Support Agent both trained on different types of information. In addition to the three seats included in this plan, we've increased the number of AI Actions available to you up to 10. These features indicate that we expect you will want to collaborate with others and automate some processes within your organization. We expect the Standard plan to appeal most to Small to Medium sized businesses (SMEs) who have already proven out the role of a chatbot in their daily operations and now want to expand its use to other areas/departments/web sites. It is no surprise it is so popular; we have tried to find a balance between cost and feature set.

Pro

Pricing: $500 / month

Best for:

High-traffic businesses and larger teams requiring extensive message volume, detailed advanced analytics, and support for five or more team members

If your chat volume is growing, then it makes sense to move to the Chatbase Pro plan. While your chat traffic is at 40K messages, with five+ users, and also includes Advanced Analytics this is the largest jump in terms of features besides the number of chats. It’s no longer simply about how many chats you have, but about what those chats were about, when an agent failed, and how to optimize that agent's performance. Your chatbot will support multiple (up to three) agents, and you can create up to fifteen AI Actions to create much more complex, multi-step customer journey experiences. This plan is for e-commerce sites, marketing agencies and larger product companies that use their chatbots as a core component of their customer success process.

Enterprise

Pricing: Custom pricing

Best for:

Large corporations or organizations needing custom volume limits, service level agreements (SLAs), priority support, and a dedicated Customer Success Manager

The Enterprise plan is for the big leagues—think Fortune 500 or any organization where a standardized, off-the-shelf solution just won't cut it. The feature set is described as "Everything in Pro + Higher limits," which is code for "let's customize everything." The real value here is the non-feature elements: Priority support, SLAs (Service Level Agreements) for uptime and performance guarantees, and a dedicated Success Manager (CSM). This level is all about de-risking the deployment. It’s for companies that need custom security, compliance assurance, single sign-on (SSO), and the peace of mind that comes with a dedicated human contact. It's the ultimate bespoke package for global and high-stakes operations.

What is the difference between Chatbase’s Free and Hobby?

The difference between the Free plan and the Hobby pricing plan is the most significant leap in Chatbase, especially for those moving from simple experimentation to more serious use.

To put it simply, the Free Plan is a Demo with gates. You have a maximum of 50 Message Credits. If you use a top-of-the-line model such as GPT-4, or Claude 3 Opus, your 50 message credits are gone in no time. You are also extremely limited on your knowledge base. On the Free Plan you have a total of 400KB of Training Data, and you can only add 10 Links. In addition, the Agent can be deleted at any time after 14 days of inactivity. As a result of these limitations, we believe that the Free Plan is designed only to confirm whether something works or not, and should never be used to create a persistent, public-facing Chatbot.

The Hobby plan, however, is where the platform becomes genuinely useful. We're talking about a massive leap in capacity: 2,000 message credits, which is a significant volume for a small project or startup. More importantly, you unlock Advanced Models, meaning your chatbot's responses will be far smarter, more nuanced, and less prone to hallucination than those on the Free tier. The jump to 40 MB of training data and unlimited links is a game-changer—it allows you to train an agent on a comprehensive knowledge base, not just a small PDF. Additionally, you gain access to the API and basic analytics, moving you from a static widget to an integrated, measurable tool. We think the Hobby plan is the real entry point for any solo founder or small business looking to provide reliable AI support. The Free plan is a nice handshake; the Hobby plan is the working partnership.

What is the difference between Chatbase’s Pro and Enterprise?

The main differences between the Enterprise and Pro plans from Chatbase have little to do with the features of each. Instead, these two plans differ primarily in terms of infrastructure and how to mitigate risk.

Chatbase’s Pro Plan is their top-of-the-line self-serve offering. Priced at $500/month, this plan was designed for high-volume usage that is consistent and predictable. As such, you will receive a tremendous amount of resources including 40k message credits and some advanced analytics. Since there is a lot of room for a large team, we consider this the volume plan. Therefore, Pro is ideal for those who want to scale with a standard “off-the-shelf” model and are willing to take care of their own deployment and optimization, using the tools provided by Chatbase.

Chatbase’s Enterprise Plan is more focused on customizing services to meet the needs of a particular organization. Pricing is not transparent since pricing is completely customized to the needs of each client. So, in an enterprise setting, you would exceed the maximums established by the Pro Plan and be able to set custom message limits and/or training data limits as required for large organizations.

The main difference between these two plans is not the features included but the level of support available. With Enterprise, you receive priority support with Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantees for response times and a dedicated Customer Success Manager (CSM). As such, should the bot go down, they agree upon a time frame to resolve the issue. This is a necessity for large corporations that depend on the performance of their chatbots as mission-critical and the loss of the chatbot could result in millions of dollars lost due to downtime. Ultimately, we feel that you only advance to Enterprise when you require Chatbase to deliver the same level of security, compliance and reliability as your most critical internal IT systems. In essence, you are purchasing dedicated operational support and a seat at the table for input on product priorities.

What is the difference between Chatbase’s Standard and Pro?

To us, the Standard Pricing Plan represents a successful deployment for Small to Mid-Sized Businesses (SMB). The Standard Plan provides 12,000 message credits which is an ideal amount for businesses who have a steady flow of customers, but are not generating massive amounts of traffic. Additionally, the Standard Plan includes two AI Agents and three User Seats, indicating that the business has multiple chatbots that support different departments (such as Sales and Support), and they are being operated as a small team. The Standard Plan is an ideal solution for operational consistency.

On the other hand, the Pro Plan is clearly entering into the realm of High Volume. First, the Pro Plan offers 40,000 message credits, providing a greater level of comfort and reliability for businesses with products that are receiving rapid, continuous growth, or experiencing large seasonal traffic increases. Second, the seat count is increased to five or more, further illustrating that the system is managed by a team. Finally, the most compelling difference, we believe, is that Advanced Analytics are now available to help you analyze your conversations at a deeper level than Basic Reporting offered in the Standard Plan. At this point, we would recommend the Pro Plan if you are consistently reaching the limits of the message credits allowed by the Standard Plan and rely heavily on having that advanced analysis to make strategic decisions about your chatbot. That large price increase, we believe, is indicative of the distinction between using a tool and operating a critical, high-volume automated service.

Which Chatbase plan should I choose for my small business?

There are just a couple of factors that can help determine which price tier is best for you. First, how much traffic do you have coming into your site? Second, how many people are going to be able to work on the chatbot's settings?

If you are one person (a "solo founder") working in a very specific niche market with low traffic, then you would likely want to go with the Hobby plan. How come? The hobby plan allows you to get the basics you need to run a decent, publicly available chatbot with enough space to store 40 MB of data. The free plan has such a limited amount of information and deletes your agents so frequently that you'll quickly become frustrated.

The Hobby plan is what we think of as the lowest price for a reliable, public-facing bot. Once you consistently see moderate amounts of chat traffic - say between 500 and 1,000 messages per day - and you have multiple bots set up (like a sales bot and a customer service bot), you've probably outgrown the Hobby plan and should go with the Standard plan. The standard plan gives you 12,000 credits to spend and allows for three users to work on the chatbot at once, which is great for a small group of dedicated people managing different bots. This plan is designed to be stable operationally.

You would only go with the Pro plan if you needed your chatbot to be a key part of your business that also receives a lot of traffic. The cost is quite a bit higher than the previous plans, however, this plan offers 40,000 credits and advanced reporting capabilities that could be useful if you wanted to scale your business using the data collected by your chatbot. We would recommend the Pro plan if you want to use the data to not only identify where issues may exist within your chatbot, but also to make strategic decisions about your company.

We feel like most startups should begin with the Hobby plan and move to the Standard plan when they hire their second employee who will specifically be working on the chatbot. This way you can keep your costs manageable and ensure your customers are receiving a good experience through your chatbot.

03 Compare Chatbase’s pricing with competitors

Which tool is better than Chatbase ?

When evaluating alternatives to Chatbase, the choice really hinges on whether your team prioritizes rapid knowledge deployment, sophisticated flow building, or aggressive lead generation.

While Chatbase is the go-to for simple, instant knowledge-base deployment, its alternatives specialize elsewhere. Tidio’s all-in-one website chat provides a seamless blend of live human chat and AI automation, making it ideal for e-commerce sites needing quick customer handoffs. If you want maximum design control and complex conversations, Voiceflow’s visual flow builder is the platform for creating custom, multi-step conversational AI.

For those focused purely on pipeline growth, Drift, the B2B conversational marketing leader, specializes in qualifying high-value sales leads. Lastly, Lindy, the AI assistant for professionals, offers a unique value proposition by focusing on scheduling, email, and task automation.

We think the decision depends on whether you need a simple Q&A machine (Chatbase) or a full conversational strategy tool (Voiceflow/Drift).

Does Chatbase have a free plan?

Absolutely yes! There is a plan that is completely free of cost. While many platforms will give you a 7-day trial with no option to continue unless you pay, we are calling our free tier "Free Forever". The "Free Forever" tier allows you to build and deploy a fully functional AI agent at no cost. I believe this has a huge advantage in terms of removing all financial hurdles when testing new AI tools.

With "Free Forever", you have everything you need to create your first chatbot: one full-time AI Agent to work on your behalf, the ability to add knowledge from your website links and/or documents to your AI agent, and you may install your chatbot on as many websites as you want. As such, you could use this service to create a simple chatbot using information from your company FAQ or product sheet and then quickly publish your chatbot on your site for customer interaction. We view "Free Forever" as a great sandbox to become familiarized with the Chatbase UI, as well as test the technology before your business invests in a paid plan.

What are the limitations of Chatbase's free trial?

The first limitation of the free Chatbase plan is the 50 monthly messages permitted. With more than a few visitors to a website, these 50 message limits disappear almost immediately. As such, it appears the free version is suitable only for testing purposes - i.e., you should never deploy your bot on a production level site that has active users. When your bot stops working due to excessive usage (i.e., a sudden surge) from accidental live deployment, it does not take long to happen.

The second limitation of the free Chatbase plan is its minuscule knowledge base. The training data is capped at a mere 400 KB and can only include a maximum of ten links. There is no way to develop a robust, intelligent agent based on such limited data. Based on our expertise, the design intention behind this feature was to allow you to upload one small FAQ document and test a basic conversation. Do not even consider using the free Chatbase version for training a full-scale support center FAQ, or an extensive product manual. The free Chatbase version can only be used for shallow conversation exchanges.

Thirdly, we believe there is an additional operational constraint of importance with the free Chatbase version: the agent will delete itself if it remains inactive for fourteen days. As such, you must continually utilize your casual project-based chatbot in order to prevent deletion. If you want to maintain a perpetual chatbot budget, we suggest upgrading to the Hobby plan.

06 Client’s review on Chatbase pricing

  • Julian Blake

“We started on the Hobby plan and I honestly thought we’d hit the 2,000 message credit limit right away. But because the AI is so good at synthesizing our internal documents, it answers most queries in one exchange. We’re using way less credits than we expected, which makes the $40 a month feel like an absolute steal. It’s a huge value proposition for a small team like ours; it saves us hours of repetitive support work.”

  • Seraphina Reyes

“We moved from a competitor to the Chatbase Standard plan, and the difference in value is night and day. We needed those 12,000 message credits, but the real win for us was the three user seats. We now have our marketing, sales, and support teams all managing their own specific agents, which means we can finally keep our internal knowledge segregated. The cost is justified tenfold because we’re not just automating support—we’re standardizing cross-departmental communication. I was nervous about the price jump from Hobby, but the added capacity and collaboration tools make it feel incredibly affordable for the output we get.”

  • Owen Foster

“As a consultant, I’ve used dozens of these platforms, and I appreciate Chatbase’s straightforward pricing structure. We jumped straight to the Pro plan because the 40,000 credits and Advanced Analytics were non-negotiable for our high-volume deployment. We don’t have to deal with complex usage tiers or hidden fees; we know exactly what we’re paying for every month, and we treat those credits like gold. Even at that higher price point, the ROI is instant.”

07 Chatbase Q&A

What is the pricing structure for Chatbase plans?

The pricing structure for Chatbase is built around a predictable, tiered subscription model, which we think is a huge plus because it avoids the billing surprises common with pay-as-you-go systems. Instead of charging per message or per resolution, they anchor each monthly plan—Free, Hobby, Standard, Pro, and Enterprise—to three primary scaling factors.

First, and most importantly, is Message Credits. This is your currency for usage. The tiers provide a fixed monthly bucket, ranging from a minimal amount on the Free plan (perfect for testing) up to 40,000 on the Pro plan. This makes your monthly bill stable, and you only buy extra credits as an add-on if you exceed your quota.

Second is Agent and Seat Count. As you move up, you get more AI Agents (letting you deploy different bots for different purposes, like sales vs. support) and more user seats, recognizing that the chatbot operation becomes a team effort. The jump from one seat on Hobby to three on Standard is a signal that this is designed for a collaborative business.

Finally, there’s a progressive unlocking of Advanced Features. This is how they gate the premium functionality. You start with basic models on Free, but you unlock Advanced Models, API access, AI Actions, and high-end analytics as you pay more. In our opinion, this structure works beautifully for scaling: you pay based on the volume you need and the complexity of the features required to manage that volume.

What makes Chatbase a valuable tool for entrepreneurs?

Chatbase allows entrepreneurs to gain significant operational leverage without spending any engineering time or employing human support staff. For a startup or a company running on lean resources, time is the most precious resource. Chatbase allows an entrepreneur to basically off-load their 24/7 customer support and lead generation to an artificial intelligence (AI) agent that can be set-up in mere minutes.

The idea is that Chatbase will handle virtually all of the time-consuming repetitive questions such as “How do I reset my password?” or “What are your shipping rates?” that a founder or key member of the team spends hours answering each week. We believe Chatbase will essentially handle all of these queries giving the founder or key team member more time to spend developing products, selling or working on the strategy that will drive growth for the business.

Additionally, it is more than just a fancy FAQ bot. It gives instant accurate answers due to the fact that it has been trained solely on the proprietary data of the user. Unlike a generic chatbot, this one understands the users' product inside and out. As you move through the Hobby and Standard levels of service, you unlock features such as API access and AI Actions and the bot begins to connect with other systems, take appointments or generate leads. This transforms the bot from a basic answer bot into an active sales and support team member. Based on our opinions, we believe that the combination of the no-code ease of use and the ability of the AI capability of Chatbase makes it one of the lowest cost early hires that an entrepreneur can make.

Who should consider using Chatbase?

The users who should consider Chatbase are incredibly diverse, precisely because the tool solves one of the most universal problems in business: making information instantly accessible.

We think Chatbase is ideal for three main groups:

  1. The information-rich, support-poor: These are companies flooded with repetitive questions that overwhelm their small support team. This is the most common user. Think of any B2B SaaS company whose customers constantly ask about features, pricing, or troubleshooting steps documented across dozens of help articles. By training a Chatbase agent on their existing knowledge base (which can be their website, a Google Doc, or a PDF), they achieve massive automation. The agent becomes the 24/7 first line of defense, letting human agents focus on complex, high-stakes issues.

  1. The niche expert or consultant: People who have deep, specialized knowledge—like a lawyer, a compliance expert, or a financial advisor—can use Chatbase to productize that expertise. For instance, we've seen a consultant build an AI assistant for complex compliance frameworks like ISO 27001, effectively turning their consulting hours into a scalable SaaS product. The agent simply answers detailed regulatory questions instantly.

  1. The scaling e-commerce business: These businesses have complex catalogs and constantly face questions about returns, sizing, or shipping statuses. An agent equipped with AI Actions (available on paid plans) can move beyond just answering questions to taking action, like checking an order status via an API integration.

In our opinion, it's used by everyone from solopreneurs building a quick product to large organizations like the State of Texas (for government service inquiries) or major companies needing internal knowledge bases. If your business has information and customers/employees who need it, Chatbase is worth looking at.

Is Chatbase worth the investment for its features?

Chatbase is completely worth investing in, if you are a company that values both speed and the ability to have a simple conversation, rather than complex and deep customization of workflows. Training a superior AI Agent on your own data in just minutes delivers an instant value. From the moment you roll out the Hobby Plan Bot, it is continually working for you 24/7, correctly answering all the questions that would have otherwise taken up your employees' time, created friction for your customers, or possibly lost a sale. This cost savings and efficiencies gained usually pay for the subscription in short order.

But the calculation for determining the value of Chatbase differs depending on how many customers you serve. Although the Standard and Pro Plans provide additional credits and users, the most important investment is in the Advanced Analytics that come with the Pro Plan. It is at this point when you go beyond just having a Bot, and begin to optimize it — determine what areas it is failing, and why. We recommend viewing the cost of the Pro Plan as an investment in the Data — not just an additional cost for sending more messages — which can be used to develop your overall Customer Support and Content Strategy. Therefore, if your business relies heavily on providing High-Volume Customer Service, the Data alone may be worth the cost.

What is the most popular Chatbase pricing plan?

Chatbase calls the “Standard” plan “Popular” as they organize the plans and based on how we see other companies price their products; I think Chatbase has accurately placed it there. I believe it was correctly named “popular”, because it is the first plan designed for businesses looking to scale past the limitations of the lower plans.

The Standard Plan offers an abundance of new capabilities over the Hobby Plan. Specifically, it offers a large jump from 1,500 to 12,000 message credits. In addition, it allows a small business team to have 2-3 users and 2 dedicated AI Agents. This enables a small team to run multiple chat bots to handle various tasks (i.e., One for internal HR questions and another for external Sales questions). The Hobby plan is ideal for a single person working on a small project. Once a business needs collaboration or multiple bot deployments, the Standard Plan is the obvious choice. It is the most stable and capable plan available at Chatbase for deploying chatbots into daily business operations, and therefore we always recommend it as the next major investment after achieving success with the Hobby Plan.

How can I maximize the value of my Chatbase plan?

Maximizing the value of your specific Chatbase plan is really about efficiency and strategy—making sure every dollar you spend translates into maximum automation and accurate customer service. We think a three-pronged approach works best here:

  1. Audit your usage for downgrade potential: You need to regularly check your analytics. If you consistently use, say, only 30% of your allotted message credits or aren't utilizing all your allocated AI agents, you're overpaying. Don't be afraid to downgrade to a less expensive pricing plan that better matches your actual usage. Why pay for Pro features if the Standard plan covers all your needs?

  1. Opt for annual billing for savings: If you've established Chatbase as a core, long-term tool, switching from monthly to annual billing is a no-brainer. This usually locks in a significant discount, providing savings of 20% (which is like getting two months free), immediately making your existing features cheaper per month.

  1. Always search for a promo code: You should always check our marketplace before checkout: Take advantage of our discount on Chatbase

  1. Strategically manage add-ons and extensions: While add-ons like extra agents or fine-tuning can be powerful, they add to your monthly cost. Before purchasing an extension, be sure you've maximized the training limits and AI Actions available in your current plan. Don't pay for an add-on if a simple reorganization of your existing data will suffice.

We recommend setting a calendar reminder to review your plan every quarter; it’s the easiest way to ensure you're never paying for capacity you aren't using.

How are Chatbase’s message credits used?

Understanding how Chatbase message credits are consumed is key to managing your budget and avoiding unexpected overages on the paid plans. We think of credits as the fuel your AI agent uses to process customer interactions.

Here is the breakdown of how those message credits are typically utilized:

  1. One credit per user message, generally: The most straightforward consumption is that every time a user sends a message to your Chatbase bot, it generally costs one credit. This is your baseline consumption rate.

  1. Credit consumption varies by model: This is where nuance comes in. While the Free and Hobby plans provide access to "Advanced Models" (like the latest GPT, Claude, or Gemini variants), using the absolute cutting-edge, most powerful AI models might consume more than one credit per message. Chatbase often scales the credit cost based on the computational power required for the model to generate the smartest possible answer.

  1. No credit charge for bot responses: Importantly, you are usually only charged when the user initiates a new query or sends a message. The subsequent response generated by your Chatbot does not consume an additional credit—you only pay for the input that requires processing.

  1. Consumption with AI actions: If your bot is set up with an AI Action (available on paid plans) and it executes an API call to, say, look up an order status, that entire action might count as a single transaction or be factored into the initial message cost, depending on complexity.

We highly recommend monitoring your usage dashboard, especially right after you switch to a more advanced AI model, to see the exact rate at which your monthly allowance is being consumed.
