01 Is simplyblock any Good? My expert Review
In addition to being "Kubernetes storage you can actually engineer around," I consider simplyblock as "software-defined block storage" which creates an environment that pools NVMe devices and presents those volumes to your applications through NVMe/TCP (with RoCE options) to provide high-performance without the need of a specialized SAN.
What impressed me most is how clearly the product is designed for modern, stateful platforms. JoinSecret highlights it as optimized for Kubernetes and low-latency workloads, and that matches what you see in the architecture: a control plane and storage plane split, plus node roles that support high availability and operational separation.
On the “enterprise readiness” side, simplyblock goes beyond basic PV provisioning. You can choose resilience approaches like synchronous replication and multiple erasure-coding schemes, and you can encrypt volumes at creation time using SPDK-backed encryption, useful when you’re handling regulated data or multi-tenant clusters.
The trade-off is that this isn’t a toy: initial setup can be complex, and JoinSecret explicitly calls out onboarding complexity and that it may be overkill for smaller workloads, with more limited fit outside Kubernetes-centric environments. Network prep and NVMe/TCP plumbing also demand real platform skills.

As an example of positioning itself as an alternative to EBS (Amazon Elastic Block Store) and aggressively claiming cost per GB-month and high IOPS potential, I would recommend simplyblock for serious Kubernetes operators running databases, streaming and/or other I/O-intensive applications where they are looking for control over both their costs and performance.
