When Softr starts to feel like it’s optimizing for “portal speed” over “product flexibility,” I’d look at Bubble for full-stack control, Noloco for permissioned client portals, and Glide for ops apps tied to live data.
Bubble
If I had to create another of those Softr-styled client portals but need way more product logic than it has I would use bubble as my first choice; I could do all the work in one place for the front-end, back-end and database. With the starter plan ($59/month billed annually) I am able to have repeating workflows, basic version control, a custom domain name and 175K workload units per month which should be enough for an MVP with actual users signing up. If things are getting too difficult when deploying applications, then Growth ($209/month billed annually) will add Two-Factor Authentication along with Premium Version Control (with up to 10 custom branches).
Noloco
For a Softr-like portal where permissions matter more than pixel-perfect design, I find Noloco’s plan structure refreshingly concrete: the Pro plan is $149/month (monthly) with 10 team seats, 50 client seats, 50,000 rows, 25,000 synced rows, and 3,000 workflow runs. Pro also calls out the features I care about for portals, custom domain, record-level permissions, field-level permissions, and custom code, without forcing me into an “enterprise-only” conversation.
Glide
When my main job is turning operational data into a working app fast, I reach for Glide’s model: apps consume “updates” when they sync or change external data (Sheets/Airtable), and even the Glide API counts against updates. The Free plan is explicit about constraints, 1 editor, up to 10 personal users, 0 updates/month (Glide Table updates don’t count), 25,000 rows, and 40+ UI components. If I’m piloting an internal tool, the Maker plan’s “unlimited personal users” idea is a very specific fit.

For early pilots, Glide’s Free plan makes the sandbox boundaries unambiguous (10 personal users, 25,000 rows, 40+ UI components, and 0 updates/month while Glide Table updates don’t count). When the app grows beyond a personal tool, Glide’s split between Maker (unlimited personal users) and Business (user-based pricing, any email domain) gives me a clean “internal rollout vs company rollout” switch. And if your “Softr alternative” requirement is “we’re moving to SQL,” Glide positions Enterprise around highly scalable apps with SQL support.

I believe that tools like AppSheet should be utilized even without extensive training in the field, as they can yield excellent results. I had a positive experience using it in a tourism project with a systems-focused partner. It simplified our job during the mobile app development. Even for non-programmers, it's user-friendly as it's based on "Excel" spreadsheets and has a straightforward data structure. Features that impressed us include its ability to establish small workflows, GPS and maps support, and the option to activate notifications. It can also be accessed offline. Another notable feature is its storage capabilities - it supports any Cloud provider, which I think adds significant value. I don't see any downsides to it. I believe it's a tool that offers opportunities for professionals from non-technical fields.
