01 Is Microsoft Word any Good? My expert Review

As an occasional user and frequent professional user of Microsoft Word, I cannot imagine life without Word for document creation. From my past personal and work experiences in creating business reports, academic papers, and personal letters, Word continues to provide me with a clean, final version that looks professional. For example, when I recently needed to submit a project proposal to a client of mine, Word provided me the built-in templates and formatting, which quickly allowed me to have a finished product that was more visually pleasing and that the audience could reference more easily than other presentations.

One capability of Microsoft Word that I have found most advantageous is the collaboration capacity. In regard to projects with another team members, I have used Word with OneDrive in their shared capacity for collaborative, real-time editing ability. This can make the flow of assigned work much improved because there is no email back and forth sharing of drafts of one document. I also appreciate the comment capability and tracked changes capability during a peer-review or when a colleague is editing their comments on a shared document.

Overall, I have enjoyed my time with Microsoft Word, but I sometimes have concerns. I sometimes find it a little difficult to navigate the ribbon, because there are many options, and at times that ribbon gets pretty messy when you are looking for some tools, like advanced formatting options (and mail merge). These challenges can waste valuable time and reduce productivity until you are educated enough to navigate the ribbon into a semi-familiar pattern or to reduce the clutter.

One example of this convolutedness model was when I was working on my old hardware and during the old era of an older laptop. At times, Word would lag or freeze while editing larger documents or embedding larger images such as high-res pictures. These cases are few and far between, and they gave me enough of a history of Word's reliability to feel comfortable that Word is not a wasted investment.

In conclusion, there are a few things I consider to be trivial concerns about Microsoft Word, but it is the document creator I use to create professional-looking documents with another person or by myself and it ultimately produces documents easier and better than any competitor. The value exceeds the limitations that Word brings to the day to day and work.

Collaboration Works When Styles Are Used

We switched a small team over and Word ended up being more useful than I remembered, mainly because of templates, section breaks, and mail merge. As a side note, we got Microsoft 365 Business Premium free for a year for up to 50 users through Joinsecret, which made the move easier to justify

Styles, Navigation Pane & Auto TOC

I use Word every day for client proposals, and Track Changes is the feature I rely on most because feedback stays clear instead of getting buried in email threads. It can get messy if people ignore styles, but when everyone uses them properly, collaboration is smooth

Accessibility Checker for Better Team Docs (Joinsecret Rollout)

Another small thing I appreciate is the accessibility checker, it flags contrast and heading structure issues before I share docs, and with the 12 months free Word deal I had through Joinsecret it was easy to roll it out to our team early and set good habits
