01 Is InDesign any Good? My expert Review
As a graphic designer tackling many different projects, I have spent a lot of time using Adobe InDesign and feel comfortable providing my feedback. Overall, it has been a very positive experience—the "engine" of InDesign has served me well when dealing with complex layouts. I had the opportunity to create a large corporate brochure, and InDesign made it quick and easy to manage text flow, images, and consistent branding across a large number of pages.
I love how, for the most part, InDesign plays nicely with my other favorite Adobe applications; namely, Photoshop and Illustrator. Where they feel like "best friends" in the Adobe collaborative world is that if I modify an image in Photoshop, it automatically updates in InDesign. Also, InDesign has saved me so much time being able to export quickly for print and digital, especially when deadlines are looming.
There are some drawbacks in using InDesign; for starters, sometimes locating specific tools or features can feel like my keys are lost in a disorganized drawer, especially if you are accustomed to other Adobe Apps. This inconsistency can bog me down as I sift through menus and panels.
The other drawback(s) are definitely related to the subscription service as a whole (not pertaining to InDesign specifically). While I do feel it is worth it for those professionals who use it on a daily basis, for smaller businesses and freelancers the monthly fee may be too high.
But ultimately, when considering that InDesign has the flexibility to answer my needs, the positives clearly outweigh the negatives. I now also recognize InDesign is an option for me whether it's creating social media graphics on the fly, or designing lengthy publications, it has certainly carved out a space for itself as one of my preferred creative options.
