01 Is Miro any Good? My expert Review

In my experience, Miro is one of the best visual collaboration tools I have encountered as I've seen a way of making my team's productivity and creativity soar (for brainstorming activities, strategic planning meetings, etc.). The infinite canvas allows us to explore ideas fully without any boundaries placed on how we can use the interface. For example, during a recent product development workshop, we used Miro to map user journeys and workflows, and we were able to take complex processes and make them crystal clear for everyone involved in the project.

One of the things I most appreciate about Miro is that it is very versatile in that it combines many different software functions into one useful software. Using Miro, I can generate a diagram, flowchart, or even a Gantt chart, which significantly reduces the amount of software management and usage of multiple programs that I need to engage in during project management. Getting acquainted and comfortable with the platform's interface takes time; new members on my team sometimes need a little additional help becoming familiar with all of the advanced features. Also, exporting my finalized diagrams for project stakeholders who are not regular users of Miro can be clunky sometimes.

That said, I believe any users that may have challenges recently starting their Miro journey are not enough to take away from my positive views of this software. I really enjoy its real-time collaboration features and the ability to work across time zones and engage as if we were working in the same space as we plan. Most recently at an instructional design sprint with several colleagues located in various parts of the world, we were able to collaborate in real time on our own boards and keep up with everyone's contributions consistently.

Overall, Miro is an indispensable part of my professional toolkit even if it still has a few beginner-user challenges from a usability and export perspective.

02 Pros and cons from reviewers

Miro helps to reduce the number of tools needed by addressing multiple issues with just one product, assisting in strategizing and planning work using Gantt charts, and mapping projects with flowcharts and diagrams for a clearer understanding of the workflow

  • User-friendly
Miro is incredibly user-friendly, making it simple enough for all team members to engage and collaborate on shared boards

  • Versatile visual collaboration
Miro is a fantastic visual collaboration platform used for brainstorming, creating diagrams, and mapping out ideas in real-time, offering an infinite canvas where ideas can grow and change.

  • Enhanced collaboration
Miro provides a productive workspace that allows teams to collaborate, plan, and monitor their progress, ensuring that all projects are finished on time and everyone is included in the process

• Excellent sharing options
Miro provides impressive sharing options, allowing users to track another person's view, edit in real time, conduct surveys, time tasks, and present work, making it an ideal tool for remote workers

Cons from reviewers

  • Complex user interface
Miro's user interface can be complex for beginners, making some features hard to access. This can lead to a steep learning curve for those unfamiliar with the software

  • Limited undo feature
Miro's undo feature is not very robust, which can be problematic when major changes are accidentally made to a board and cannot be undone. This can lead to potential loss of work and frustration

  • Poor customer service
Miro's customer service has been reported as lacking, particularly their limited phone support. This can lead to delays in resolving issues and frustration for users

  • Difficulty in sharing results
While Miro provides task and schedule management with sharing capabilities, it can be challenging to export the model to those unfamiliar with the tool. This can make sharing results with others inconvenient

  • Billing irregularities
Some users have reported frustration with Miro's billing practices, particularly when removing team members and being billed for 'empty spaces'. This can lead to unexpected costs and dissatisfaction with the service.

Figma and Miro are both popular tools in the world of design and collaboration, but they have distinct differences that make them suitable for different purposes.

One significant difference between Figma and Miro is their core focus. Figma is primarily a design and prototyping tool, designed for creating and iterating on user interfaces and digital designs. It excels in providing a platform for designers to work collaboratively, ensuring that teams can create, review, and refine design projects efficiently. Figma's real-time collaboration features and design-related tools make it an excellent choice for UI/UX designers and design teams.

On the other hand, Miro is an online whiteboard and visual collaboration platform. While it can be used for design-related tasks like wireframing and brainstorming, its primary strength lies in enabling teams to work visually, brainstorm ideas, and collaborate across various domains. Miro is not limited to design alone; it caters to a broader range of...

Discovery Research Clustering in One Board (Credit a Bonus)

I found Miro especially good for discovery work because you can pull research notes, screenshots, and flow sketches into one board and cluster them quickly, and getting access through Joinsecret with that $1k credit cushion was a nice bonus rather than the main selling point

Joinsecret Credits + Multi-Team Workshop Controls
