My top 3 OneDrive alternatives
By Jean-Loup Karst, Co-founder @Secret
Google Drive
Google Drive is regularly used by individuals and organizations because it works so well with the other services from Google (like Gmail and Google Docs). It comes with 15GB of free storage, and there are paid tiers as needed. It allows you to share files and folders with anyone, even if the person you are sharing with does not have a Google account. Another advantage of Google Drive is that it makes collaborative efforts easier, since multiple users can work on the same document at the same time.
If you need a google alternative to OneDrive, Google Drive is worth the explore based on how easy it is to work with collaboration tools and how good it felt overall.
Microsoft SharePoint
Microsoft SharePoint is another alternative that is particularly useful for businesses. It's more than just a cloud storage service; it's a comprehensive platform for intranet, collaboration, and workflow automation. For instance, a team can use SharePoint to create a project site where they can share documents, updates, and maintain a project calendar.
Dropbox
Dropbox is known for its simplicity and reliability. It offers 2GB of free storage with options for more through paid plans or referrals. Dropbox stands out with its feature called 'Dropbox Paper' which is a collaborative workspace where teams can create and share early ideas. For example, a design team can use Dropbox Paper to brainstorm ideas and gather feedback in one place.

Why is Google Drive a good alternative to OneDrive?
I find OneDrive to be a great alternative to Google Drive due to several reasons. Firstly, it seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Office Suite, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. This makes working on documents directly from the cloud incredibly convenient. Secondly, OneDrive offers a feature known as Files On-Demand that allows you access to all your files without having to download them and use storage space on your device. Thirdly, OneDrive's Personal Vault feature provides an extra layer of security for important files. Lastly, if you're a Windows user, OneDrive is already integrated into the system, making file backup and syncing a breeze. Overall, these features make OneDrive a strong contender in cloud storage solutions.
What are the differences between Google Drive and OneDrive?
I have found that OneDrive and Google Drive, while both being cloud storage services, have some distinct differences. Firstly, OneDrive is integrated with Microsoft Office and allows for seamless collaboration on Office documents. In contrast, Google Drive works best with Google Workspace applications such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Secondly, OneDrive offers 5GB of free storage space whereas Google Drive provides 15GB. However, this 15GB on Google Drive is shared across all Google services like Gmail and Photos.
When it comes to pricing for additional storage, OneDrive's plans are generally more cost-effective than Google Drive's. Lastly, in terms of privacy, Microsoft has a stronger stance against sharing data with third parties compared to Google. However, both platforms offer robust security measures to protect user data. The choice between the two often depends on individual requirements and preferences.
Microsoft SharePoint is a versatile platform designed for teamwork, offering tools to create websites, securely store, organize, share, and access information from any device.

Microsoft SharePoint compared to OneDrive
OneDrive has better positive reviews compared to Microsoft SharePoint: 90 vs 86
OneDrive is easier to use than Microsoft SharePoint: 4.5 vs 4.0
OneDrive is more suitable for small businesses thanks to its good value for money than Microsoft SharePoint: 4.4 vs 4.2
Microsoft SharePoint is better at number of features than OneDrive: 44 vs 32
Why is Microsoft SharePoint a good alternative to OneDrive?
I find OneDrive to be a great alternative to Microsoft SharePoint due to its simplicity and ease of use. While SharePoint is excellent for large-scale collaboration, it can be complex and overwhelming for small teams or individual users. On the other hand, OneDrive offers a straightforward, user-friendly interface that makes storing, sharing, and accessing files a breeze.
OneDrive is also integrated with Microsoft Office apps, allowing you to seamlessly work on documents directly from your cloud storage. It offers real-time collaboration, which is perfect for working on projects with teammates. Furthermore, OneDrive's robust syncing capabilities ensure that your files are always up-to-date across all devices.
In terms of security, OneDrive provides options for file encryption and two-factor authentication. This gives me peace of mind knowing that my data is secure. Overall, I believe OneDrive's simplicity, integration capabilities, and security features make it a compelling alternative to SharePoint.
What are the differences between Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive?
When I compare OneDrive and SharePoint, both products of Microsoft, they serve different purposes even though they are used for storing and sharing files. OneDrive is more personal. It's like a personal locker where I store my files and share them as needed. It's perfect for individual use. On the other hand, SharePoint is designed for collaborative work. It allows multiple people to work on the same document simultaneously. This makes it ideal for businesses and teams.
Another difference lies in the way these tools handle files. In OneDrive, files are private by default until shared with others. But in SharePoint, files added to shared libraries are available to every team member unless specified otherwise. Also, SharePoint provides additional features like lists, sites, and workflows which are not present in OneDrive.
Dropbox allows your team to centralize and share files simply and quickly. You can then gain in productivity thanks to an efficient and fluid collaboration between different actors of a project.

Reliable Large File Delivery for Video
We use Dropbox mostly for video deliverables and it has held up well with large files. File requests save me a lot of back-and-forth when I need clients to send footage, and version history has already saved us twice after someone overwrote the wrong file

Why is Dropbox a good alternative to OneDrive?
I find OneDrive to be a great alternative to Dropbox for several reasons. Firstly, OneDrive offers 5GB of free storage compared to Dropbox's 2GB. This extra space is beneficial for storing larger files or more data. Secondly, OneDrive is integrated with Microsoft Office, which allows me to edit documents directly on the cloud without having to download them. This feature is especially useful for collaborating on projects and sharing files with others. Additionally, OneDrive's interface is user-friendly and easy to navigate, making file management a breeze. Lastly, OneDrive offers competitive pricing for additional storage, making it an affordable option if you need more space. All these factors make OneDrive a strong contender in the world of cloud storage.

Excellent Tool for Efficient Data Management
I really appreciate the simplicity of efilecabinet. It's easy for my team and I to navigate through the program and find everything we need. I like that it alerts us to check back on files if we leave them open while working on another project. I also enjoy the scanning features which make our data entry process faster. Setting up our efile scanner was a bit time-consuming and we needed help from the support desk. However, once it was set up, we haven't had any problems. The vendor responded to my review, thanked us and assured us of their ongoing support. They also mentioned that their customer success team is always ready to help if we need further assistance.

Admin-Friendly, Low-Risk Sharing
My main use case is legal paperwork, so trust matters more than bells and whistles. Proton Drive handles that well. The document preview in the browser is good enough for quick checks, and I like being able to organize client files without exposing too much metadata. It still has room to grow in collaboration features, but for secure storage and controlled sharing it does the job well

Affordable and Scalable Solution: Fulcrumapp.com Review
As a non-profit coordinator, I've found Fulcrumapp.com's affordability and scalability to be a major advantage. It's allowed us to manage our resources more effectively without compromising on functionality
August 11, 2024
Fulcrum compared to OneDrive
Fulcrum is better at customer service than OneDrive: 4.5 vs 4.0
Fulcrum is more suitable for small businesses thanks to its good value for money than OneDrive: 4.6 vs 4.4
Why is Fulcrum a good alternative to OneDrive?
As a tech enthusiast, I believe that Fulcrumapp.com stands out as a viable alternative to OneDrive due to its unique set of features. Unlike OneDrive, which is primarily a file hosting and synchronization service, Fulcrumapp.com provides a comprehensive platform for data collection, data management, and reporting. It's perfect for teams working on field data collection, offering capabilities such as geotagging, team collaboration, and even offline data collection.
Moreover, Fulcrumapp.com allows users to create custom apps tailored to their specific needs. This makes it incredibly versatile and adaptable to varying business requirements. While OneDrive is great for personal use or simple business applications, the robustness and flexibility of Fulcrumapp.com make it an excellent choice for more complex projects that require advanced data handling and collaboration.
What are the differences between Fulcrum and OneDrive?
I use both Fulcrumapp.com and OneDrive, and they serve very different purposes. Fulcrum is a data collection platform which allows users to design custom forms and conduct field data collection on iOS and Android devices. It is extremely useful for businesses that require field surveys, inspections, or audits. It's highly customizable and allows for real-time data collection and analysis.
In a slightly different way, OneDrive is a file hosting service and synchronization service operated by Microsoft. It allows users to store files and personal data like Windows settings or BitLocker recovery keys in the cloud, share files, and sync files across Android, Windows Phone, and iOS mobile devices, Windows and macOS computers. It's primarily a storage solution that integrates with Microsoft's suite of online services including Office Online, Outlook.com, etc.
So in essence, while both are cloud-based services, Fulcrum is more about mobile data collection while OneDrive focuses on file storage and sharing.
