I have spent a significant amount of time researching and testing various accounting software alternatives to QuickBooks. Here are three options that I found to be quite impressive: Xero, FreshBooks, and Sage Intacct.
Xero
Xero is a straightforward accounting solution with many valuable features for small and medium-sized companies. Tasks like invoicing, quoting, bank reconciliation and payroll management are greatly simplified with Xero. If your business is a retail store, Xero can help you track your sales in real time and enable inventory movements across your locations. Xero connects to over 700 business apps, which connotes flexibility.
In conclusion, I would consider Xero a great replacement for QuickBooks - Xero is intuitive, dependable, and the correct mix of simple and helpful!
FreshBooks
FreshBooks is another excellent alternative to QuickBooks. It's designed for freelancers and small businesses, offering intuitive and straightforward invoicing, expense tracking, and time tracking features. For instance, if you're a freelance graphic designer, you can use FreshBooks to bill clients for your time, track expenses for each project, and even accept online payments directly through the platform.
Sage Intacct
Sage Intacct is a comprehensive financial management solution that's ideal for larger businesses or those with more complex accounting needs. It offers advanced features like multi-dimensional reporting, revenue recognition, and project accounting. Latest QB Update (12/223) Review
The latest update (12/223) to QuickBooks Desktop Pro is terrible. They've removed the categories and the date the invoice was sent from the invoice view, forcing me to open each invoice individually to confirm the date. Adding a payment is also a hassle, as I need to open more options on each invoice to do this. They've made the most trivial options viewable but removed the useful ones. They've also removed the option to use the old version, instead charging $3 for it without giving me any say in the matter. I manage over 2 companies using the Enterprise desktop version and the constant mandatory updates, user lockouts, and issues with desktop outlook are frustrating. Their top-tier support doesn't have any solutions either. It's really upsetting to feel so dependent on a tech company.

However, I am not fond of the restriction on the number of custom fields. If I require custom fields now, I will likely need more in the future. I don't like being limited in the number of fields, which forces me to operate within the tool's constraints rather than my own understanding. I don't want to pay for something as basic as a field. I would prefer to be charged for baselining, enhanced reporting, or more advanced features, rather than being nickel and dimed for fields.
