As a software enthusiast, I have explored various accounting and invoicing platforms to streamline my business operations. While FreshBooks is a popular choice for many, there are other alternatives that offer unique features and functionalities. Three alternatives that I have found to be particularly useful are QuickBooks, Xero, and HoneyBook.
QuickBooks
QuickBooks is a versatile accounting software product designed for small and medium business use. QuickBooks has lots of useful features including invoicing, expense-tracking, and financial reporting. What I really like about QuickBooks is how seamlessly it integrates with various business software options so that you can oversee all aspects of your finances from one place. I have typically used QuickBooks for expense-tracking, financial reports, and filing my taxes at year-end.
When considering options such as FreshBooks I would personally lean more towards QuickBooks as it will generally have wider accounting functionalities, and in business where detailed financial reporting or integrations are necessary, it is often better suited than FreshBooks. FreshBooks is a great tool that freelancers or smaller businesses can use who would prefer simple accounting, but for the features and option to grow with your business QuickBooks would be a better option.
Xero
Xero is another popular accounting software that is known for its user-friendly interface and cloud-based platform. It offers features such as bank reconciliation, payroll management, and inventory tracking. One of the standout features of Xero is its ability to collaborate with accountants and bookkeepers in real-time, making it easy to work together on financial tasks. I have used Xero to manage my payroll, track inventory levels, and collaborate with my accountant on financial reports.
HoneyBook
HoneyBook is a unique platform that caters specifically to creative entrepreneurs such as photographers, designers, and event planners. They can jump in at any time, leave notes, and review reconciliations without us sending files back and forth. The reporting pack is good for monthly reviews, particularly profit and loss and aged receivables, though I would not mind more built in management report layouts

Excellent for Contract Management and Streamlined Invoicing
I use HoneyBook for its valuable contracts and simplified invoicing. I like the auto-billing and recurring billing features, but I'm not satisfied with the high transaction fees. I've noticed that competitors offer faster deposits. Despite the addition of many new features to the software, I've had difficulty learning the initial project features to utilize the new smartfile features. Hiring a professional to assist is too costly. The invoicing platform is user-friendly and the CRM helps me manage contacts and specifics. The contract templates meet my needs perfectly. However, payments take longer to deposit compared to other platforms. The pipeline and smart file features are complicated and even after two years, I'm still not using them. My clients also don't appreciate the notifications on every change within their project. I initially chose HoneyBook thinking I could use the project management platform, but it wasn't up to par so I switched to BaseCamp instead. I often use Square for invoicing because the fees are lower.

I initially found Fiverr Workspace promising. However, after a few mistakes, I lost access to my account within days. Despite giving my username and email to Customer Service multiple times, they claimed they couldn't find my account. Latest QB Update (12/223) Review
The latest update (12/223) to QuickBooks Desktop Pro is terrible. They've removed the categories and the date the invoice was sent from the invoice view, forcing me to open each invoice individually to confirm the date. Adding a payment is also a hassle, as I need to open more options on each invoice to do this. They've made the most trivial options viewable but removed the useful ones. They've also removed the option to use the old version, instead charging $3 for it without giving me any say in the matter. I manage over 2 companies using the Enterprise desktop version and the constant mandatory updates, user lockouts, and issues with desktop outlook are frustrating. Their top-tier support doesn't have any solutions either. It's really upsetting to feel so dependent on a tech company.
