Power Apps: An Excellent Low Code Dev Platform for O365 Users
As a frequent user of O365, we required specific apps to manage processes that were previously manual. Instead of purchasing a product, we opted to use Power Apps to create a solution. We already had access to it through our existing O365 license and found templates that fit our needs. It took only a few hours of development to create a custom app at no extra cost. The ease of building a custom app and the functionality provided even with the basic M365 license is impressive. However, there are some limitations and scalability issues. I wouldn't use it to run a whole operation, but it's suitable for smaller, specific apps. Licensing beyond the basic features can be confusing and costly. Also, not everyone documents parts of their app properly, which can cause problems. This is a common issue with self-developed apps.

It features a user-friendly drag and drop editor, custom templates, and a wide range of connectors for integrating multiple applications into one PowerApp. However, the access permission management in Microsoft Power Apps can be confusing.

I tried using Power Apps to develop a tracking app for external trainees. I liked its strong integration with SharePoint and the overall Office ecosystem, and thought the pricing was fair, as some access comes with certain Microsoft 365 tiers. However, I found that running an app on a SharePoint list made the experience slow and off-putting for our external users. I also found designing a Power App more challenging than other no-code/low-code products. I initially chose Power Apps because it was part of our Microsoft subscription and its integration with SharePoint, but I eventually switched to AppSheet.
