When attempting to determine why a product experienced a "Conversion Dip" after being released, my go-to tool is Amplitude. My process begins with Funnels. I will use them to determine how the behavioral cohorts are performing as compared to others. Next, I will utilize Session Replay in order to attempt to understand "Why" this occurred. Additionally, I perform an A/B test using Web Experimentation. The reason I prefer this workflow is because both feature flags and experimentation sit adjacent to the analytics portion of the platform; therefore, I do not have to tie together multiple different platforms simply to execute a change and track lift. Furthermore, pricing is based upon MTU's (Monthly Tracked Users), rather than event volume alone. Therefore, when discussing budgets regarding B2C products, it allows for fewer abstracted discussions.
PostHog
PostHog is what I pick when engineering wants one stack that covers product analytics, session replay, feature flags, and experiments without swapping vendors. The usage pricing is unusually explicit: Product Analytics has a free tier of 1M events/month and then charges per event, and Session Replay has a free tier of 5,000 recordings/month with per-recording pricing after. That clarity makes it easy for me to trial it in a real environment before committing.
Heap
Heap stands out for me when the biggest problem is instrumentation debt. With autocapture, I can define what “Signup CTA click” means later and still analyze historical data, rather than waiting weeks to collect new events. When I need qualitative context, Heap’s Session Replay is tied directly to the analytics so I can jump from a funnel drop-off to replays that are cued to the exact event. For small rollouts, their Free plan’s “up to 10k monthly sessions” boundary is a concrete starting point.

I also find MTU-based thinking useful when your users generate wildly different event volumes (e.g., power users spamming events) and you’d rather budget around tracked users than raw event count. Finally, for orgs that care about data hygiene, I like that Amplitude talks about data tracking plans and an AI data assistant/data management layer right in the pricing feature grid, those are the controls that keep event taxonomies from turning into a mess over time.

I've been using Mixpanel for a long time without extracting much value from it. With Posthog everything is clear and immediate and it's really easy to see how users are interacting with the tool and getting value. Support is also great. Finally I have dashboards that I can act on.

CleverTap: Streamlining User Targeting Based on Behaviour Patterns
I have been utilizing CleverTap as a crucial component of my business for the past five years. It has been excellent for targeting users based on their journey and prompting them at the right moment to convert them into customers. While it is user-friendly, there is still room for enhancement. The behavioral insights and built-in support for multi-channel marketing maximize the available resources. The Mixpanel integration is still in beta, but once finalized, it will enable CleverTap to provide the best of both platforms. My primary reason for choosing CleverTap was its efficient user targeting.

Replaced Multiple Tools, Strong Survey Targeting
We found Howuku via Joinsecret and got the first year at 50% off, which was nice, but the more important part was that it replaced two smaller tools for us. The survey targeting options are better than I expected, especially for asking questions only on exit intent or after a delay
