01 Is Shift any Good? My expert Review

As someone who regularly juggles multiple projects and accounts, I can honestly say that Shift has become a lifesaver in my workflow. I really appreciate that Shift is able to bring together all my apps and accounts in one easy-to-use interface. For instance, if I am managing multiple social media campaigns, I can easily switch between client accounts without having to log in and out all the time. This convenience has genuinely improved both my productivity and has allowed me to keep my desktop free of clutter.

Another thing I found impressive about Shift is how well it integrates with other tools. When I am collaboratively working on projects, I often rely on apps like Slack, Trello, and Google Drive all at once. With Shift, I can incorporate these directly into the platform and save myself a lot of hassle. It saves me a lot of time and energy compared to constantly switching between a ton of browser tabs or separate apps.

That being said, while I still enjoy my time with Shift, my experience has not always been smooth. I have occasionally had glitches that have caused me issues after a software update that made my workflow more challenging. I know it is normal to have glitches from time to time, but I have waited a few days after an update when I had slow and/or unresponsive navigation through my email folders. Although it did eventually fix itself, I found it frustrating at inopportune moments.

I would also say that I felt customer support could improve when coordinating recoveries from these technical issues. Responses can often be on the slow side and rather generalized - I find them to mostly provide basic troubleshooting advice instead of more direct assistance for the specific issues.

Overall though, despite the small bumps along the way, I am still quite happy with Shift. It has really helped me to better manage multiple accounts and effectively integrate apps. As long as ongoing stability and longer response times for customer service occur, it will continue to be a useful tool for any individual managing complex workflows.

02 Pros and cons from reviewers

Pros from reviewers

  • Enhanced productivity
By consolidating frequently used applications, websites, and programs into one user interface, Shift significantly improves productivity and reduces redundancy

  • Streamlined workflow
Shift provides a centralized platform for managing various external browser apps and desktop programs, making workflow management more efficient and less cluttered

  • Easy account switching
Shift allows for fast and easy switching between different accounts once websites are loaded, which is particularly useful for users managing multiple accounts for the same service

  • App integrations
Shift's app integrations eliminate the need for keeping multiple apps or windows open, thereby improving efficiency and desktop organization

  • Customization
Shift offers a high level of customization through the installation of extra apps, allowing users to tailor the platform to their specific needs.

Cons from reviewers

  • Constant need to log in
Shift struggles to keep accounts logged in as much as a regular browser, leading to the need to constantly sign in to apps. This is particularly inconvenient when clicking a link from an app in Shift, as it opens within Shift and not the user's preferred browser.

  • Frequent glitches and updates
Users have reported encountering glitches in the dashboard almost every day, and frequent updates often cause the dashboard to malfunction, hindering navigation through mail, folders, and drafts

  • Poor customer support
When users reach out to support for help with glitches and bugs, they are often suggested to uninstall the software or try an alpha or beta version, which also come with their own set of issues. The support team has been described as unhelpful and unresponsive

  • Limited advanced features
Despite its ease of use and tab management, Shift lacks advanced features compared to its competitors, such as Wavebox, which continually introduces new features and supports Linux

  • Limited email integration
The email feature in Shift only works with major platforms like Gmail and 365, and there is no option to disable the Gmail integration for users who don't use Shift for email

Shift: Transforming a Complex Array of Windows into One

Shift has greatly improved my workflow and helped me keep my desktop clean. Over time, it has become a more efficient tool for managing the multiple apps and windows I use daily. The app integrations are a game changer, as I no longer need to keep multiple apps/windows open. However, I've noticed that Shift doesn't import bookmarks from Chrome or other browsers. Once this feature is added, I believe I won't need a regular internet browser anymore. The vendor responded to my review, expressing enthusiasm about my improved workflow and cleaner desktop. They are developing a feature to import bookmarks from the web, which would eliminate the need for a browser. They asked me to stay tuned for updates.

    No Longer Offering Home Pick-up.

When I purchased my car from Shift, the experience was flawless. They delivered the car to my driveway and it matched the description on their website. However, when I sold the car back to them, I had to drive it 1.5 hours to the Port of Oakland and wait two days for the agreed payment to be deposited. I missed the convenience of their pick-up/drop-off service. On the bright side, they did cover my Uber to Amtrak for my journey home.

When I went in person, they provided a detailed explanation of the car's value, using specific terms that really helped me understand the process. It's clear they're thorough and want to ensure a fair deal. I highly recommend using Shift to save time and energy when selling your car!

Brilliant Idea, Yet Clunky for Everyday Use

I tried using Shift, the paid version, for over a year but found it less efficient than advertised due to several issues. I constantly had to log into various apps and websites, and it became the default browser for links opened from within Shift-connected apps. I eventually stopped using it and switched back to using a work-only user on my computer to avoid distractions. I like the idea of having all my work apps in one 'workstation', which helps me stay focused and keep my apps organized. However, Shift struggles to keep accounts logged in as much as a regular browser, leading to the annoying need to constantly sign in to apps. Also, if I click a link from an app in Shift, it opens within Shift, not my preferred browser, which is often inconvenient and unhelpful.
