High support and maintenance fees: Despite the cost of the software and support not increasing for new users, existing users have noticed a substantial increase in support and maintenance fees every year
-
Declining quality of support: The quality of support has significantly declined since the original buyout by Bain Capital and hasn't improved much with recent buyouts, leading to longer response times and users having to solve their own problems
-
Inadequate initial training: The initial training was found to be too costly and hurried, making it unhelpful. It also occurred before anyone had any experience with the software, leading to major problems due to misunderstandings
-
Limitations in customization: While the software is highly customizable, there are limitations like not being able to use the same craft and class code combination in more than one category, which can be inconvenient for clients with varied viewing preferences
-
Complexity in setup process: The software's flexibility can also be a disadvantage as it complicates the setup process. If you switch from a simpler solution to Viewpoint, you might make some short-sighted decisions about setup or implementation.

Mastering Viewpoint's Vista: A Journey in Project Management
I feel that many problems with the viewpoint-vista software could have been avoided with better training. The initial training was too costly and hurried, making it unhelpful. It also occurred before anyone had any experience with the software. There are video trainings available, but some are outdated. Once you grasp the software's subtleties, it's a good product. It effectively tracks compliance, and entering subcontract and change orders is simple. It also provides useful reports for gathering information. However, due to inadequate initial training, the previous accounts payable person mistakenly thought she could bill an amount on items marked as EA, causing major problems. The support staff suggested that if Viewpoint resolved this issue, their support cases would significantly decrease. If they can't resolve it, they should at least stop users from performing the function. While the reports provide valuable data, some are awkward and it can be challenging to find exactly what you want to display. The support is excellent, but when a problem extends.

Terrible Implementation Experience, High Staff Turnover, and Growing Pains Impacting Customers
This software is user-friendly and efficient for our concrete product manufacturing work. However, the implementation process was one of the worst I've ever experienced. It took us over a year and a half to get started due to constant changes in project managers during the company's restructuring. We had to repeatedly explain our needs each time a new person was assigned. We also had to be careful with customizations as they were outsourced and not prioritized according to our schedule. If I could go back, I would have considered other options. It seems the company's investor ownership negatively impacts customers, which is bad for business.

19 Years of Experience with Viewpoint Vista Software
I am a heavy user of the Viewpoint-Vista software and it effectively fulfills my needs. I have in-house experts who utilize the software to extract data into other tools like Power BI for reporting and inquiry. The software has a solid back-end accounting system and is robust and customizable. However, it's not as user-friendly for non-accounting individuals. I've noticed a substantial increase in support and maintenance fees every year, even though the cost of the software and support doesn't increase for new users. I've also noticed that the longer I am a customer, the more I pay compared to a new customer. The quality of support has significantly declined since the original buyout by Bain Capital and hasn't improved much with the recent buyouts. I used to receive prompt responses for any issues, but now I mostly solve my own problems and develop workarounds. I used to trust new releases, but now I wait before installing the most recent ones. I chose Viewpoint Vista in 2003 because the company was solid, family-owned, and their values aligned with mine.
