01 Is Google Workspace any Good? My expert Review

I've spent quite a bit of time helping businesses set up and manage Google Workspace, and overall, I've found it to be a really reliable platform. One thing I particularly appreciate is how smoothly all the apps work together—it just makes things easier.

Day to day, tools like Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, and Meet integrate so seamlessly that it genuinely reduces friction. For instance, I’ve jumped from a calendar invite into a video call, shared a Google Doc mid-call, and edited it live with a team of five—without anyone missing a beat. The collaboration capabilities feel baked-in, not bolted on.

That said, it's not without its quirks. Sometimes the document formatting gets messy when exporting to Microsoft formats, and admin controls can feel scattered across too many panels. But those are minor gripes in the grand scheme of things.

If you're a startup or even a mid-sized business looking for a clean, cloud-based way to work together, Google Workspace is a fantastic choice. It’s intuitive, cost-effective, and scales well as your team grows.

04 How Google Workspace compare to similar software?

The simplest way to differentiate between Google Workspace and Squarespace is based on the "job to be done".

Google Workspace facilitates a team to produce and collaborate on work-related items (email, calendar, meetings, documents, etc.) as well as provide shared storage with governance. Squarespace assists businesses to publish and sell products online via an aesthetically pleasing website which includes basic functionality to show their offers, collect lead information and perform simple ecommerce functions. These differences can be identified through workflows used daily.

The typical workflow within Google Workspace would include scheduling a meeting using the Calendar application, then attending the meeting via Meet; drafting documents using Docs; tracking data within Sheets; storing documents within Drive; and managing permissions to those stored documents via the Admin Console.

This process, when well-organized and set-up will help eliminate unnecessary operational friction...

The primary distinction is what each is built upon. Google Workspace was created with collaborative applications at its core (e.g., shared drives, document-based workflows, live meeting links, commenting threads, etc.) – where the routing layer is based on email. The majority of the value of this platform is derived from the speed with which teams can transition from "message," to "document," to "decision" – all within the same context. Therefore, if your company creates drafts, proposal outlines, product specifications and shared workbooks; those elements will show up as actual throughput in terms of time.

Zoho Mail is designed with an email-focused approach as well, although more intentionally so than Google Workspace. As such, it typically makes the most sense when your workflow revolves mainly around the inbox, calendar, and a few shared email accounts. Furthermore, if you prefer to maintain a simple tool chain and would prefer to avoid committing to the full productivity...

When comparing Slack and Google Workspace, it’s important to understand the key differences between these two collaboration platforms to determine which one is best suited for your business needs.

Firstly, Slack is primarily a messaging and collaboration tool that excels in real-time communication. It provides features such as organized channels for team discussions, direct messaging, file sharing, and robust integration with a wide range of third-party applications. Slack is designed to streamline team communication, making it easy to collaborate in real-time, whether through text, voice, or video. Its strengths lie in its ability to integrate with various tools, allowing teams to customize their workspace with apps that fit their specific workflows.

In contrast, Google Workspace is a comprehensive suite of productivity tools that goes beyond messaging. It includes Gmail for email, Google Drive for file storage, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides for document creation and collaboration,...

    Great Product!

I'm a big fan of Google Workspace. I've been using it for over five years now. I feel they can add basic AI functionality to the standard plan itself. The standard plan is missing AI capabilities, which makes Workspace feel slightly limiting. Would love possible for Google to add that going forward

  • A reliable and productive collaborative suite

"I have been using Google Workspace daily for several months and the experience has been overall very satisfactory. The suite brings together Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet and Drive in a coherent environment, which truly simplifies real-time collaboration between colleagues. Simultaneous document editing and cloud synchronization work flawlessly, and onboarding remains accessible even for non-technical users. The video conferencing features and file sharing adequately cover the needs of a remote team. A few caveats though: the more advanced administration options require some time to adapt to, and pricing can rise depending on the number of users. To better understand how to integrate this type of tools into a modern e-commerce approach, I found useful resources at https://universalcommerceprotocol.fr/. Overall, a reliable and productive tool that I recommend."

    Convenient user-friendly

As someone who manages several ventures, Google Workspace has consistently been my top choice for a productivity suite. It offers a comprehensive range of features that provide an excellent cost-benefit ratio, making it an ideal solution for businesses of all sizes. Recently, the integration of advanced AI capabilities has become a significant advantage, further streamlining my workflow. I highly recommend Google Workspace to anyone in the market for this type of service. Beyond its robust functionality, I find it incredibly convenient and user-friendly, particularly due to how easy and intuitive it is to configure. It is a reliable, all-in-one platform that I truly trust for my professional needs.

    Client-Friendly Collaboration in Docs

Google Docs is still the easiest way I know to collaborate with clients because comments, suggestion mode, and version history are all simple enough that even non-technical people use them properly. It is not perfect for heavily formatted documents, but for day-to-day work it saves us a lot of time

    Seamless Gmail–Calendar–Meet Workflow

We moved our 12-person team to Google Workspace last year, and the biggest win has been how Gmail, Calendar, and Meet all work together without much setup. I can turn an email into a calendar event in seconds, and shared calendars have cut down the usual back-and-forth around scheduling

Great tool - difficult to add the deal

I don't think there's anything bad to say about Google Workspace - it's a massive suite of tools that make running a business easier by consolidating many other tools in one package. However, trying to grab this deal from JoinSecret was rather difficult. No matter how many times I tried to add the code, Google wouldn't accept it and tried to shove their current promo for new accounts instead. I had a similar, though not as great promo from elsewhere that I was able to add instead of this deal. So keep that in mind -but Google Workspace is certainly worth checking out!

    Fast Rollout with Minimal Training

For a company with mixed technical ability, Google Workspace has been easy to roll out. People already knew the basics of Gmail and Docs, so training was minimal. The real value came later with shared calendars, permissioned folders in Drive, and live editing in Docs during meetings. My only complaint is that offline use is still not something I fully trust when traveling

Gmail for Shared Inboxes and Clean Aliases

Gmail on Workspace is one of those tools that seems boring until you rely on it all day. Shared inbox workflows through groups, strong spam filtering, and easy alias management have cleaned up a lot of our customer communication. We also got a Joinsecret perk that lowered the cost on a new Plus subscription by roughly 20%, which was helpful, but I would still rate the product well without that

Time-Saving Admin Console and Vault Retention

What surprised me most is how much time the admin console saves. Adding users, setting retention rules, managing groups, and checking basic security alerts is much less painful than in some older systems I have used. Vault has also been useful for keeping email and file retention organized, especially when clients ask us to trace old conversations

Smooth Tool Handoffs for Remote Teams

Workspace has been a solid fit for a remote team because the handoff between tools is so smooth. A meeting note starts in Docs, action items go into Tasks, files sit in Drive, and everything is tied to the same account. We bought the new Standard tier with a Joinsecret discount, about 20% off if I remember right, and that helped since we were onboarding several people at once
