01 Is Workday HCM any Good? My expert Review

With all the experience I have in HR and managing HRIS software, I cannot express enough how transformational Workday HCM has been for us. We have significantly improved our HR processes with this powerful software tool that came from one proven common system. I like the way Workday HCM packages together payroll processing, recruitment client tracking and performance reviews into one coherent platform. For example, running recruitment and campaigns, the applicant tracking system that is part of the overall Workday portal and suite, allowed us to coordinate candidate interviews and onboarding flows easily.

What stood out for me was the user interface. Employees in every department were able to fully understand and navigate the software without any challenge or excessive training. We were able to transition smoothly without many bumps in the road. I was also amazed at how easily employees could take care of updating their personal information or requesting time off without asking for HR input. This provided greater autonomy and allowed us to free up a lot of time that had been spent on admin.

Of course, like anything new that you introduce, it took time to settle in to the suite of products and it was a process. The setup took longer than expected to cover months of review and channel resources before we began to be able to use the full capabilities. Creating expense reports (or expense submissions) through work day shuffling through multiple approvals and some lack of instructions could sometimes be frustrating. There were also a number times when users had submitted their time sheets or updating benefit enrollments and encountered unknown errors.

Despite some settled frustration to begin, I remain pretty positive with our HRIS and HCM processes. Workday HCM is cloud based, which allows you to access it from anywhere, but this is especially important during uncertain times working with remote teams. Just recently we had a company rolling initiative to temporarily return staff to remote work and our HR team was able to administer referenace training sessions and surveys of employee engagement through our Workday platform as required. For us, Workday HCM has become a valuable partner in supporting our HR practices and improving employee satisfaction across our company.
