I have explored various alternatives to Slack, each with its unique features and benefits. Here are three of them:
Discord
While Discord is mostly used in the gaming community, it is not exclusively for gaming. It serves as a communications platform for any type of group. It has usable voice, video, and text channels for easy conversation. It also allows groups to create sections of conversations into separate channels. For example, in a software development team, every member can see and/or participate in conversations and/or discussions based on areas they are interested in, i.e. a front-end channel and a back-end channel, etc. If you are searching for a substitute for Slack, Discord is a worthy consideration. It certainly offers a few advantages. Discord provides the same organized conversations and easy file sharing as Slack and the ability to start a voice or video call just as easily. However, Discord generally has a more friendly tone and is more seamless to use. Many teams report that Discord's features are simple and flexible for professional collaboration and social informal chats.
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is another excellent alternative to Slack. It's particularly beneficial for organizations already using Microsoft 365, as it integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Teams can be used for chat-based communication, meetings, and file sharing. For instance, a project manager could use Teams to share project updates and relevant documents with their team, facilitating efficient collaboration.
Notion
Notion goes beyond just messaging and offers an all-in-one workspace where teams can write, plan, collaborate, and get organized. It combines notes, tasks, wikis, and databases into one platform. A marketing team might use Notion to plan their content calendar, track campaign progress, and store all their brainstorming notes in one place. This makes it easy for everyone on the team to stay updated on the project's status.

Misleading effect and no protection for customers
I bought this profile effect based on the preview shown in the shop: it looked like a big, visible animation covering most of the profile. Once applied to my real profile, it’s almost invisible, just a tiny dark spot above the banner. The preview doesn’t make it clear at all how the effect is actually cropped and displayed. I contacted support a few minutes after the purchase, explained the situation and asked at least to swap it for another item of the same value, bought on the same day. The answer was a flat “no”, with the usual policy that all profile cosmetics are non‑refundable and cannot be exchanged, even when the user is clearly misled by the promo image. The message is basically: if the preview is unclear and the item turns out to be disappointing, that’s your problem. No flexibility, no goodwill, just aggressive monetization and all the responsibility pushed onto the customer. I won’t spend another cent on these cosmetics.

Slack's integration with other professional tools like Google Drive, Asana, and Trello is another major advantage that enhances productivity. Moreover, it also provides advanced search modifiers to easily locate past conversations or shared files. While Discord is great for gaming communities and casual chats, Slack’s focus on professional communication makes it a more fitting choice in a corporate setting.

Trello appears visually appealing and is very user-friendly for me. Its straightforward interface enables me to quickly grasp how to structure my tracking. However, I am not fond of the restriction on the number of custom fields. If I require custom fields now, I will likely need more in the future. I don't like being limited in the number of fields, which forces me to operate within the tool's constraints rather than my own understanding. I don't want to pay for something as basic as a field. I would prefer to be charged for baselining, enhanced reporting, or more advanced features, rather than being nickel and dimed for fields.
